I have previously posted a message about places to sell Gold in the uk i have shopped around like mad in the past to find the company who pays the most iv used lois in birmingham and hatton garden in london, there are loads of companies in Manchester too, The recent company i used yesterday was the Manchester Gold Company they offered me £77 more than the other places in Manchester i went to!
They said they now have a Gold buying place in Liverpool.:j0 -
Just had to add a comment on here about LOIS JEWELLERY of Birmingham.
I’ve been looking to sell some old 9ct and 18ct gold. Most of the other sites refused to tell me what they were paying for gold, so it was impossible to make a comparison. One of them did eventually give me a rate, which valued my gold at £135.
My next step was to take it to several local jewellers. Here the highest I was offered was £735.
I Googled and came across LOIS JELLEWERS of Birmingham. They had rates quoted on line and a normal phone number (not an 0845).
Called them on Saturday 04SEP10 and spoke to a very pleasent young lady who managed to calm most of my fears.
Yesterday I posted it to them Registered Post, along with their online form. That cost me £8.05, but then I had wrapped and packed it so it wouldn’t rattle.
This afternoon, at around 14:00, I received a phone call from another young lady telling me they had weighed and tested my gold and were willing to pay £1,249!!!!
I agreed instantly and the money was in my bank by 15:30.
This is a genuine comment as I just had to share my good news with you all.0 -

Hi
I sold a couple of rings to Hatton Garden because of the advice that I found on this site. I sent them special delivery yeasterday and recieved the exact amount that the website quoated in my bank account today.
The amount they offered was a lot more than I expected. I would recomend them.0 -
Lots of good feedback (including mine!) for Hatton Garden Metals on this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2084905
Good prices and very fast payment. Use Next day Special Delivery to safeguard your delivery to them!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
ok, so is there any difference in cash paid for white gold?0

I've got a few old earrings and a couple of old rings (with cubics / sapphires set in them) and thought I might as well sell them. I like the idea of Hatton Garden Metals but how do I work out the weight with the stones and what happens to the stones ? Do I dig them out of the settings before weighing / posting ?? Sorry if that sounds really dim0

Check the faq on the site, i think they want you to remove the stones.
I too have an inherited ring which I believe to be 18ct gold ring, the weight i imagine is what matters x value per gram.
However I can't help but wonder if given the time and effort that went into making that ring I'd be better off with a jewelers instead of selling it off just for the gold?
That times article showing the massive differences i found amusing, it's always best to know what something is worth compared to relying on greedy 3rd parties valuing something for you i think is the lesson there, knowledge is power etc.
Is there an arguement of keeping the ring whole and pawning/selling it vs. selling it to a gold broker/smelter? like hattongardenmetals.com ?
Also I wonder if it's worth waiting, alot of people saying gold will be going even further up but who knows... nearly £20/gram (as of posting) for 18ct gold is nice but maybe it could be nicer?0
