All I can say is - if it looks like a few stacker boxes and a £4 TAP, THEN THAT'S WHAT IT IS!!!!!!!

If you think of it like that then £40 ain't so cheap...

Check out eBay - it seems to have plenty of wormeries, and also instructions. You can even buy the worms online.

I made a simple one recently for peanuts - it works well and ain't too shabby.

We very lucky enough to get a Can-o-worms from freecycle:j Have been to various sites re the "stuff" ie worm treat, moisture mat etc(we have Millions of worms already both in our compost bin and in hte garden generally so dont need any more) all the sites I have seen seem to offer the whole package rather than the accessories. Does anyone know if we could "do it ourself" or where we can get the items needed rather than having to buy the whole thing.Does anyone have a Can-o-worms? Any advice? How do you set it up? Are they as fab as they seem to be? Can't wait to get started. Many thanks for reading this.

  • I don't know anything about Can O' Worms, but if you have the compost material and the worms what else do you need? If you read up on composting you should be able to get the information you need and do it yourself.

try this link for items you can use with the can o worms there is also advice on their website. I've had one for years and I really like it. If you can get hold of the book 'worms eat my garbage' by Mary Applehoff, it goes through everything you need to know about wormeries. You can get the type of worms that live in these wormeries from fishing tackle shops as they sell live bait, might be cheaper than wiggly's. I use the liquid as a plant feed when I've diluted it with water. Happy composting!

  • Just about to purchase a wormery off ebay its a small one £30 - can not wait once my cheque is cashed. Thought about how much waste and vegetable matter I throw in my bin, even though only me in the house and a cat. Thought I would be green. If I end up with too many worms I could sell some to the fisherman that come up my street every sunday!

    Hi Tracey

If you run out of green stuff, peelings and tea bags - do what I do. I put all my shredded bank statements and bills in there. It keeps the wormery sweet smeliing and the worms like a bit of paper or cardboard, too.

    Good luck. Womeries are fantastic!

We have had our wormery about 6 months, the worms are now setled and munching their way through everything, its a 2 tier wormery and they have migrated to the top layer. We chop most things up just with scissors, and add cardboard and shredded paper etc, the worms love it. Ours is kept in the garage and we now have a composter on order as well.
