Worms and Wormeries (Merged Discussion Thread)

Hi angie loves veg
As my hubby doesn't do veg it would only be minimal veg peelings, along with the usual things that can be put in a wormery. The only thing I would have from the garden that could go into a composter would be grass clippings. I remember years ago my grandad used to put his grass clippings into black bags and leave them in the shed then he used to use these for putting into the borders in the garden once it had broken down a bit.Did owe £9,951.96

Sounds like it could be a wormery for you then! good luck!
I got mine from wormcity - certainly cheaper than can-of-worms.0 -

It is just me and my husband and I want to start getting greener in the garden. I like the idea of either a composter or a wormery but don't know what would be best for us. My husband doesn't eat veg so we don't get many veg peelings but he does do potatos so we do occasionally get potato peelings. What might be best for us and what can be put into either a composter or a wormery. I have read through this thread but am just confusing myself (doesn't take much :rotfl: )
Hi-Like you, have read through this thread, and finding the decision confusing,as there seems to be pros & cons for both:p Just wondered, have you decided which(if any)method are you going to use?0 -
Hi Red Arrow, think we are definitely going to go for the wormery over the composter, just have to try and find a cheapish wormery now. I found this website useful as it was more what could be fed to the worms more than anything else.

I made my own from a design posted somewhere on this thread.
I got three plastic storage boxes with lids, and a tap fitment. Fitted the tap to the bottom box - that's where the liquid goes. Put holes in the second box, for the liquid to drain through; placed shredded paper, tea bags and vegetable peelings in this box and laid a handful of worms on top. Covered the worms with some cardboard and closed the lid before stacking this box on top of the bottom one. Kept the third box as a spare - for when the second one gets full.
When it does get full, I'll lift out a handful of worms and start the third box.
Can't remember how much it cost - I think it was less than a tenner - I got the plastic boxes from Aldi. I'm really pleased with it - none of the worms have escaped, it was cheap and it's a better design than the little one I bought from Wiggley Wrigglers - which was rubbish.

Hello all, I am joining all you wormery owners as I live on my own with a tiny garden/patio so it sounds perfect. Thanks for the link to recycleworks, I have joined.
At the moment I am just fretting that the worms & wormery will arrive when no one is there and the poor worms will get sent back to the depot!0 -
I have been thinking about getting a wormery for a while now. I have been trying to source a fairly inexpensive one. This is the best I have come up with so far:

Does anybody have any advice/hints/suggestions before I go ahead and buy it. I am going away in a couple of weeks but want to start going with it in June. I hope I will produce enough food to keep them happy! Is it as easy as the sites seem to suggest? I don't want to kill off a load of worms.Newbie thread: go to the top of this page and find these words: Main site > MoneySavingExpert.com Forums > Household & Travel > Motoring > Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking.
