    Congratulations!

    However, perhaps it did...

After all, you've had a 90 day period of not knowing". Perhaps this may have affected some of your spending/planning, or other perceptions of life?

Just wondering. Recession (& life in general) isn't just about a job.

Yes, undoubtedly it did affect me in some way but ultimately not in a major way.
I did actually ponder putting in for VR as the pay off would have finished my mortgage and left me with £20k on top. I did look for another job for a couple of weeks but didn't find one in time to apply for VR and hence decided to sit tight if I could.

As for affecting my spending, no not really. I didn't puchase anything hugely expensive during the consultation but wasn't planning to anyway. (Most expensive decision was to continue to go ahead and replace some windows in our old house that we now rent out etc)

Perceptions of life?? Nothing I can hang my hat on but who knows. It all seems slightly intangible and very difficult to quantify.

Not a very exciting story I'm afraid!

    I'm true to my word.

    Consultation over.

    Still got job.

Recession hasn't really affected me that much then...... One of the lucky ones I guess. My best wishes to all those who haven't been so lucky.

    That's excellent news.

Without wishing to put a damper on matters. Don't assume the worst for your Company is over.

The recession has affected me in the following ways:

    Bad things:
    • My Company cancelled training courses, reduced marketing budget, paid pathetic or no bonuses and froze wages.
    • Holidays much more expensive due to weak pound.
    • One friend was made redundant.
    • A few friends have decided not to come to the UK as jobs prospects are better in Aus.
    • Lower interest on my savings.
    • Lots of whining in the newspapers, tv, etc.
    • Gloating from people at work on tracker mortgages.
    Good things:
    • My fiancee entered full-time work, so our income increased
    • Negotiated rent decrease
    • A lot of shops on sale - cheaper stuff, 2 for 1 deals at restaurants etc
Overall I'd say we've weathered the storm well, but the weak pound is a killer.

It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
