Otherwise, always check in online and arrive 45 minutes before and walk straight to the plane. Why would you spend any longer at the airport?
There are many reasons.
Firstly if you have to travel a long way to the airport and it's on a busy road (like the M25) then you need to allow for acidents and breakdowns. Also at heathrow it can be 45 mins from the car park to the airport so you need to allow time.
Most of the time you won't breakdown or get badly held up so you will be there early.
Secondly most holidays I've been on stipulate getting there up to 3 hours beforehand. If you miss the plane throught your own fault you will not get a payout on insurance.
Thirdly on easyjet flights (and I'm sure others too) there is no seat allocation. Boarding happens in the order of time you arrive, so you get an increased chance of a better seat if you turn up early because you get to board first and pick your seat.
Fourthly. Sometimes the queues are quite busy and in some cases 45 minutes is not long enough to get through to the gate.
Leave it to the last minute if you like but personally I like to allow for a vhicle breakdown or traffic hold ups.
We sometimes allow plenty of time and then stop before the destination to have a nice lunch so it is quite pleasant to be unhurried rather than a burden.0 -
know this is somewhat cheeky, but does anyone know how easy it is for food to "accidently fall" into a plastic bag in my hang luggage
It's pretty easy (provided you aren't totally open about it).
There is usually one person on the desk and often they can't see you.
Just be a bit discreet.
I take water and food to my table, put it down as if I'm going to consume it.
Leave it there a while and then pop it into my bag at an opportune moment.
I don't have any problem with doing this.
I think these lounges are horribly overpriced so it's not like I'm going to put them out of business.
In the ones I go to there aren't sandwhiches.
It's just very small packets of biscuits, crisps and chees.
I really can't see what's immoral about saving it til later rather than stuffing my face in the lounge.
I could sit there and eat and drink a load before I go on.
Perhaps some of you would not be morally outraged if I stuffed myself before I get on the plane.0 -

Just one word of warning, it says in the lounges that food and drink in the lounge can only be consumed in the lounge and cannot be removed from the lounge. Therefore if you do get caught, be warned.
However saying that I use BA lounges very often and have often taken food from the lounge (just a snack here and there) to munch on while I wait to get on the plane. Nothing has been said.
I guess as long as you don't take the p*ss I'm sure you will be fine."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Thanks for the warning. I guess people should be careful.
The lounges I go to have never really contained "food" just a few packets of crisps and nuts.
I guess if you are taking a meal for a family of four then that's different from a packet of nuts.0 -

Reality is that its really difficult to time driving to teh airport and parking etc, plu syou hav eto allow for security etc. I travel often, and with my family allow plenty of time, but when on my own with hand luggage do leave it to the last minute.0 -
