Nicki, there's some evidence that gestation of 42+ weeks is more likely to lead to stillbirth, and some trusts set the bar for induction early just in case the mum's dates and the scan weren't accurate. The perinatal mortality rate doubles at 42 weeks and triples at 43 weeks.

Something that's not really factored in though is that the key signal for labour to start is the baby having produced enough lung surfactant to be best at breathing. Therefore a baby might not be sending this signal because they are already unhealthy IYSWIM? I think this skews the statistics.

But I agree with you, there ought to be more patient consultation about it, and there are cases of women refusing intervention and giving birth to very healthy babies at 46 weeks :D

    Sorry to be Geeky:o

That's really interesting. Bit like that they don't like to do elective c sections before 38 weeks, even though baby is technically full term at 37, presumably for the same reasons.

Presumably if baby was unhealthy, due to lung issues, it would still be better to get them out sooner rather than later, and deal with the issues if they can be dealt with, rather than leave the poor mite in with a deteriorating placenta for weeks and weeks

If I were uncertain about my dates, then I guess I might be more inclined to want to prolong a pregnancy rather than maybe bring the baby out before it was ready, but I'd certainly want to be monitored pretty closely during this period. I know I wouldn't be able to live with myself though if I were offered an induction at 40+ weeks at a time when I could feel the baby still moving around in my belly, refused and subsequently gave birth to a stillborn baby having gone into spontaneous labour, or even if my baby went into special care for a while. It's one of those hard decisions you have to make as a parent though, with no crystal ball to tell the outcome, but disregarding the medical advice would raise a red flag for me.

I thought the issue with pizza hut buffet salads was more that food had been sitting out at room temperature for several hours, with an added risk of contamination from less hygienic diners . I have to confess that whilst I've been pregnant, the only thing I've had from the salad table has been things like whole cherry tomatoes, sweetcorn, cucumber, etc and I've given anything else a wide berth. Having said that I've been prone to hideous sickness throughout the pregnancy so have steered well clear of anything which might cause food poisoning more for my own sake than baby's :o

Thats what i thought, i have everything you have said you have, and also the bacony crunchy things, i love them :D

Fishcake - I love your video, i left a comment :) My video was poo, baby decided to be still during recordings.

Im back on my morning sickness diet of chicken noodle soup and strawberry fruitella, everything seems to make me queasy or give me heartburn at the minute. I even came home from work early today as I felt crappy. I still cant believe Im 32 weeks tomorrow, its flying by now

    Hi all

Just ordered this from Kiddicare, looks like a pretty good bargain, also ordered a nursing chair for £120 instead of £300, so feel a bit MSE now!:p

OH has gone out for the night, just debating on whether or not to do the ironing from the holiday, or just try and find CSI or something on TV.

Had homemade lasagne for tea, which was lovely, feeling a bit hungry so might go back for another slice! hmmm, decisions, decisions........

  • Gemma I got my nursing chair delivered this week, I love it! OH said he'll never get to sit near me again as I'll be in it all the time. Mine was £120 instead of £300 too, I look at is as saving £180 not actually spending the £120 :rotfl:

Me too! For that and the monitor I 'saved' £270 tonight!

OH can't see the point in a nnursing chair, he thinks I should just go into the living room, but I want to move as little as possible during the night and my back is a bit twingy already so I need all the support I can get.

I am so tired, it's not even 9pm yet!

I don'r know what is going on, but bubs is going crazy this evening!
  • My belly monkeys been really quiet all day. I think she had hiccups earlier though as I kept getting rhythmic little pulls deep inside my bump. Midwife tried to explain this week that because Ive got an anterior placenta some movements reverberate (sp) back into my bump so feel like twinges near my bum :o

OH said I didnt need the chair too, I think after carrying this pudding for 9 months I deserve a comfy chair! I got this one in the end http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-COSATTO-RECLINER-GLIDER-BABY-NURSING-CHAIR-STOOL_W0QQitemZ370258798511QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Baby_Nursery_Furniture_ET?hash=item563524e7af&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
