Hi Nikkit, I wish I could say I did have bubs here with me but she is still far too comfy. I went to the consultant and she was very nice. Explained to me about doing a sweep, how it didn't work for everyone but was quite keen to give it a go. Anyway she asked me to think about it while she did all the other checks and when she came back in the room she said 'btw, I should confess I've never done a sweep before, although I have done the course and know how to do it'. Well, up until that point I was going to go for it but once she said that it put me right off.

I'm all for trainees and juniors sitting in on the birth and I know everyone has to start somewhere but she is supposed to be fairly high up (I assume) and I'm not keen on someone poking my cervix who doesn't really know what they are doing. So I've put it off til next week. Even then, I don't have to have a sweep if I don't want, they could just book me in for an induction which I think would be better, at least I won't be waiting too long. That's all assuming that I don't go naturally in the next week. I'm going to read up on the birth story thread tonight or tomorrow about inductions and see if that is something I would be willing to do. Otherwise, I might just try the sweep but ask for someone else to do it.

Either way, I bought some pineapple fingers this morning so maybe they will help evict her tonight.

Hope Squishy is having more luck than me,

Nope, no more luck than you harley - I'm still here too! At least bubs has woken up a bit: she was very quiet this morning but a lot more squirmy this afternoon.

I will admit that my pelvis and upper legs are more sore earlier than usual (tends to wake up okay but worsens during day) and bump is getting rather sore when I'm sittting or lying down. I guess it's going to be more time on the gym ball after tea!

hi everyone that ^ ^ is my birth story.

Kian is doing so well. he didnt feed properly for bout 24 hrs after birth and then had the 'jitters/shakes' so he had some blood tests done when he was bout 18 hrs old. but all were clear.

i cant believe how much a part of our lives he is already. he's feeding really well now and although i really wanted to breastfeed we both struggled so am expressing at the moment and loving it.

Harley- hope its not too long for you now!!

need to catch up so can anyone give me the ' headlines' from the past week??

and a big massive thanks to everyone for the best wishes on here and on facebook.

  • Sorry to hear you're both still here Squishy and Harley (in the nicest possible way). Hopefully you'll both start off naturally in the next week or so. So strange to think out of all the September twenty-somethings we're down to two! (Sorry if that sounded annoying, I didn't mean it to :o).

Does anyone have a sling? I really like the look of this one on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=26176917 but not sure if it would support the head enough to be used from birth?

Hi Jillie - I just PM'd u in case you didn't post on here!

So glad it's all going well - I couldn't get Jack to latch on very well and then when he did, he either didn't suck or I didn't produce much! Then when I expressed I didn't get much either!

Can you believe it's our due date today?! Feels so strange with him already being here.

harley, squishy, csh and of course Nicki - big labour vibes to you all

Thanks for that Jillie and congratulations again. Not sure if it is just me but I can't see the facebook photos from the link. It just says content not found. I'm absolutely positive, however, that Kian is gorgeous:T

Hi Harley, hope your cold is feeling better :)

Not sure if you wanted people's views but I'll wade in anyway:p:D

I would definately pick a sweep over an induction any day of the week. A sweep is at worse uncomfortable like a smear and a bit ineffectual.:D

Inductions almost always require an epidural since the pain is more sudden and acute. These then, and the speed of the chemicals forcing the contractions often leads to bad positioning, needing ventouse/forceps. Jille's story is very much the norm of inductions I'm afraid. I know of only one woman who was induced and didn't have an epidural.

I really HTH, and offer it to you just as my thoughts with gentleness and respect for what is your decision.:)

edit: a sweep after 41 weeks results in natural labour after an average of 2.8 days...

You want to PM the queen of slings on the Parent Thread - FRITHA.

We had a sling meeting in Warrington yesterday - there was 7 of us MSE girls there which was lurvely! :p

They have them all over so you should find one near you - there is a website called sling meet. Am sure if you google it you'l find it.

I tried Jack in the Mae Tei - but he was a bit little and I didn't like the way it supported his head. I also tried him in a Wrapsody stretchy wrap sling which was much better and meant I could cwtch him right in against me (Like I was holding him) and then when he gets bigger he can face me or face out front.

IMO It's much better to try the sling on (preferably with a baby if you can borrow one!) as you can see what suits you.

  • Jillie- just read your BS and it sounds fairly traumatic. Kian is absolutely gorgeous and I'm so pleased to here he's settling in so well :T.

Thanks for that Glam. I'm off to have a look for a sling meet near me....
