Know what you mean johnoz - I phoned them on Friday and hung on for over 10 minutes before they answered. However, as its an 0800 number I wasn't too bothered as it wasn't costing me anything.

That's ok if you're with BT but others (ie Talk Talk) will have to pay for call.
  • Sorry, my mistake, I didn't realise. I thought 0800 numbers were free for everyone, and only 0845 and 0870 were now free with BT

You're not mistaken. 0800 numbers are free from all landlines.

Apologies - as atypical said 0800 are free. It's the 0845 numbers I was thinking of which are not cheaper than other calls on TT

Hung on for 60 mins from 12:00 to 1:00 today without an answer.

Just tried again for 15mins - not very impressed - and the music is lousy.

EDIT : just got thru after another 15mins - so it only took 1hr 30 mins total to activate my account .
    Maybe it's just me

The application process is not exactly smooth. Long phone waits only to be told that the activation team cannot be reached or to have the phone put down on me (as just happened). They send you an email telling you to " Activate your account, just call 0800 00 88 00" despite being unable to do so until some pin numbers arrive and then a card. Why tell us to activate an account long before you are actually able to do so? Someone needs to tell them that this is a savings account not a credit card...
  • Hi,
I am on the phone now, still waiting....72 minutes and my phone is about to die on me!
Not at all impressed with this service, they should give out the waiting times in this day and age of technology.

  • I'm shortly coming to the end of my 6.3% fixed Egg savings account and this Citibank one would probably be the best follow on.

I was just wondering if anyone had got as far as using the account online and what it was like transferring money in/out as telephone access sounds difficult.

I can see they accept Faster Payments in but it's BACS out. As far as I can tell, it doesn't look like you could deposit money with a debit card and start earning interest straightaway like you can with Egg but would anyone know for sure?

Will have to watch that 1% variable part as well. I'm kicking myself now that I missed the 3.25% Egg one, which was pulled a couple of weeks ago.
  • Hi,
Well after 2 hours holding on the phone in one hit, and sending a complaint email in, i am gonna ditch this one! My patience has run out with this one.
I shall keep to me Egg and A @ L accounts, no probs with them both up till now. I cannot handle the stress...LOL!

It took me over an hour to activate my account last night. I finally managed it, and the online banking looks pretty good, so I'm going to stick with the account and see how it goes, but I agree that this is a shocking lapse in service!
