Give it a week and MSE Dan will come out with another thread with it....
  • I have just spent about three hours trying to open this account and then trying to do a call back because it failed. I have now just found out I can't have this account because I have been out of the country for the last year.

They'll say it's for money laundering purposes if asked I guess. Though you do have to wonder. I reckon it's more to do with them trying to market insurance of some sort at a later date.

With regard to the number of transactions it asks you to estimate you're likely to make. I think that's rather bizarre a thing to request a customer to do on a no notice account.

But anyway, don't cut off your nose to spite your face for the sake of a couple of guesstimates.

Seems they've modified the application form now - much more straightforward. I'm in.
  • OK, I've applied online and rang first to ask about being an Egg customer. I was also told that as long as you're not a member of Citi, then you are classed as a new member and entitled to the bonus.

    From their T&C
1.8. The Account can be opened by Existing and New Customers ("New Customers" for the purpose of these Specific Terms and Conditions means any person, including Joint Account Holders who in the past six months from the date of their Account application have not held an account with Citibank International plc. "Existing Customers" means any person who at the time of applying for an Account or anytime six months prior to the application for an Account held an account with Citibank International plc.

At the end of the application it says I will have to wait one working day to see if I've been approved.

    Fingers crossed on Monday
  • Just to say applied 2pm Friday with email saying being processed.
Got the account opened email 8pm Saturday.
Gotta wait for PIN and a SAVINGS CARD ? I assume in post then call to activate account.

They still seem to require everything except my inside leg measurement, I'm out!:p
  • My first post, so here goes! If I were to place say £50000 in the account and then withdraw £20000 three months later, and say at the end of the year the balance in the account was £100, is the bonus payable on the period that sums are retained in the account or just on the final balance at the end of a year? I hope that comes across sort of clearly! Many thanks.

payable on the period that the sums are retained in the account. yes.

the 2.25% bonus rate is fixed for 12 months. that is applied throughout the 12 months, even if the interest is paid into your account annually.

just keep an eye on the underlying 1.00% variable part.

I was on leave last week, but the team received a press release about this account on 15 September, and wrote it up for the article as soon as the embargo was lifted.

    Thanks
