what the view on going from XP to 7, worth it?
More to the point... can your computer cope with it? If your machine came with XP to begin with, it's unlikely to be quick enough to run 7 unless you've upgraded it yourself recently.

It looks a bit different, and has a shiny new name.

As for the performance, it's a bit better at some things, and a bit worse at others.

It's a minor upgrade, and a penny-pinching Vista user who is satisfied with it might as well stay with what they've got.

Have you actually used it?! Performance is far better than Vista in all respects and although based on the Vista kernel it is definately not a minor upgrade.

I personally never had an issue with Vista but have been using the RTM of W7 for a month or so now and the RC's before that and this is a far superior operating system

Anybody who pre-ordered Windows can ditch that order now, cause there's an even better one out (Well, it will be next week)

For a limited time, Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional will be available for only £30. This offer is only for students, so I put it in the student section as well as here, in case some don't look that far down the board!

This is the site you'll need to go to.

    <3 you :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

    I'll be getting that :)

With SP2 for Vista it may not be as much of a performance increase but I did not bother updating from XP I installed this as soon as it came out on Beta and I would never go back to XP as W7 runs much better and smoother and although not as relevant it looks much nicer and makes XP feel really outdated when I have to use it

there are a few differences in locations of settings etc but they really are not as much of a deal as some people are making out and the vast majority of users should have no problems at all finding them if they need to

one anoying change for me is that they have removed the run option from the start menu but Win+R brings it up still, personally I really like the new taskbar and holding shift while clicking an icon will bring up another window but if people really don't like it they can change it back to how it was using any of the guides they can find from google

there are a lot of little changes that I am finding usefull , small things like hitting start then typing the first few letters of a program to find it can make a lot of difference when you have as many things installed as me and while still not perfect being able to snap windows to the sides can make it easy to compare things or watch video while browsing sites

Windows 7 seems to me to be a minor upgrade to Vista; I tried the beta and went so-what?.
Compare the pricing to Apple's new OS, where a 1-user licence is £25 and a 5-user "family pack" is £39.

Snow leopard is hardly groundbreaking itself. It's not a new OS

yeah the RC version looks like that but I guess the windows 7 has improved in some more security stuffs.

From reading the Microsoft page, you need an existing copy of Windows so I'm guessing this is an upgrade version not a full retail copy?
