  • Hi Kitty - congratulations!

Have you looked at the site for your local registry office? I would have been happy to have our ceremony at the one in York, but they didn't have a room big enough for all our guests!! The website also usually has info on the licenced venues in the area. Anywhere that is licenced for civil ceremonies can do civil partnerships. You could also try starting a thread on here & asking if anyone can recommend a venue in your area, the ppl on here are very helpful. I found our venue, which is a golf club through someone else posting on here! Went to see it & loved it!

    now what
  • congratulations april brides and grooms!

has anyone booked a honeymoon yet? not very mse but my other half booked our honeymoon yesterday, we are going to sri lanka and the maldievs, cant wait! thankfully my new in-laws are giving us some money towards it and the rest... well, we will just have to cut back on everything for the next 7 months, it will be worth it though :D x

kittycatnbex - after we booked the date we decided to sort out catering and the photographer as we thought that was the most important thing. thats all ive done so far... i am going dress shopping this weekend so hopefully will get a few ideas!

I supose the starting point is your budget & what you would both like?

It's hard to know what to suggest without knowing more about what sort of day you want?

If you want to, you can just go & register your civil partnership with two witnesses, exchange rings (or not) & go home for a cuppa & cake.
Do you just want a small group at the ceremony & then a nice meal somewhere?
You could have the ceremony with a few close friends/family, then a party in the evening for everyone else?
You could just have two witnesses, then go out for a romantic meal / wild night clubbing - just the two of you?

I can only tell you our experience - our starting point was the guest list & our budget! Then we found a venue that could do the numbers we wanted (about 85) for what we could afford.

Once we found the venue, we decided on the date, then started looking at other peoples ideas, it gave us ideas for things that we wanted & certainly didn't want!

Get a big cuppa/pint/G&T - then sit & read through some of the threads on here, also look at some of the wedding websites - they have good ideas that you can make your own too.

Hi pav, not sure about a honeymoon yet! We might put it off until later in the year - not sure we could be organised enough to go away for two weeks straight after! Although we are staying in a cabin at the venue for the whole weekend & are considering hiring a camper van for the week after!

  • Hello guys, you've made so much progress already... good job!

I'm getting married April 2010 in the states so still doing my research.

Loose cannon, can you give me an idea of what your spread sheet is like? Did you get it from somewhere? otherwise may I ask if you can forward it to me, ofcourse without your figures? I'l PM you my email addy? :)
    Thank you.

    Hi Strawberries,

The spreadsheet has a guest list and budget planner (which accounts for, e.g., variable costs like dinner or fixed costs like the dress). There's also a to-do list, a table seating planner and a gift list/thank you list page. It's not wildly complicated, and makes keeping track of things pretty straightforward. PM me your email and I'll send you a blank copy.

    Best wishes,
    Paul
  • Thanks Loose Cannon! My OH made an awesome spreadsheet at the weekend, I was very please to see it.

I've PMd you so you can forward me yours' and we can use that too.Very many thanks!!

  • hay thanks pav and joolesw i have call a wedding meeting with the other half and see how that gose. i will up date you when things get going :D
  • loose cannon - I wonder whether you'd be willing to share your spreadsheet with me? I seem to have got bits of paper flying all over the place and am getting really confussed now! I started off on a good note and wrote everything down, but now I look at it and it makes no sence!!!! I'm getting a little lost at the moment and think that might help me to get organised.

Also does anyone know about the charges when ordering from America, or how i can work these out? I'm about to order my stationary from cards nad pockets but would like ot work out the full cost before hand. TIA x
