I won ebay auction but it said i was second bidder!

as bid increment would have to be at least £1 more than mine to beat, not 5p!
The other guy bid more than you and he won, you lost. That was how i thought ebay was supposed to work? can you provide link to the ebay Ts&Cs that say his bid should be invalid? I don't see any reason it should be????0 -
Update.... I am so chuffed , seller has let me have the item as she agrees with me! Result.:jThis is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine:kisses2: Fiancee of the "lovely" DaveAshton :kisses2:I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine.0

bid increment had to be £1 more to win
I hope the seller gets negged by the actual winner over this, and also has a non-performing seller report filed against them.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

I've won and lost the same way.
Bid at £41.
So I bid £44 maximum.
Ebay increases the price to £42.
New bidder comes in at £44.05, so ebay compares it to the bid, still at £42, and it is more than the £1 increment required, so it accepts.
My bid is £44 maxiumum, so ebay goes to the higher figure, now £44.05, and they win.
I always actually bid up a few pence, maybe I would have put in £44.16, and if you take a look, a lot of auctions do finish on odd numbers.
surprised ebay agrees - are you sure they're not interns that started a few weeks ago! The above quoted posted clearly explains why the OP did not win so if I were the real winner I'd be a bit peeved.0 -

I was thinking along the same lines.
It seems these days that if people have a petulant tantrum they get their own way.
I thought that only worked with under 5's!<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Even ebay agree with me! no, "basically" bid increment had to be £1 more to win and it was not so basically i won in accordance to ebay bidding rules. Even seller agrees and is asking other person to pay £45 or will let me have it which is a result.
So both seller and ebay agree with me rather than you.
From ebay;
Here are the standard bid increments from ebays page:
Current Price / Bid Increment
£0.01 - £1.00 / £0.05
£1.01 - £5.00 / £0.20
£5.01 - £15.00 / £0.50
£15.01 - £60.00 / £1.00
You just don't get it do you?
I suggest you stay off eBay from now on. It is far too stressful a place for you, not too mention beyond your ability.0 -
So the winning bidder bid more than you. They won. That's how ebay works - what's the deal?Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:0

What a strange seller! They've pretty much asked for a negative off the rightful winner. I would not be at all impressed if I was the buyer.
Wonder if the bidder who the OP bid up from £41 will come in and say 'well... I bid £43.95'.....
Also, the OP could be possibly be setting themself up to be scammed, it's outside of eBay now.0 -
From ebay site
"Current Price / Bid Increment
£0.01 - £1.00 / £0.05
£1.01 - £5.00 / £0.20
£5.01 - £15.00 / £0.50
£15.01 - £60.00 / £1.00"
Seller asked other person for 95p more than he bid because ebay stuffed up and this is the bid he needed to have to beat me , he refused so seller let me have it as he should never have won with his bid.
I am sick of ebay. I have 100% positive feedback at 1678 and i have to play by ebay rules and so should they. And all you saying that you would neg the seller. I think you are the nightmares. I dont neg people as easily as you do. One item i bought recently was refunded to me and seller did not send as they "apparently" were told by ebay to send to second bidder which ebay said did not happen. Did i neg them? No. ..makes me wonder if you are one of those who neg people because the padded envelope got crumpled in th post!
