I won ebay auction but it said i was second bidder!

I have 100% won an ebay auction, even ebay agree yet i can't have it.
.......................I bid £44.00 at 9.39:26
yet winning bidder bid £44.05 at 9.39:35 and won. So i should have won as bid increment would have to be at least £1 more than mine to beat, not 5p!

I rung ebay and they said , yes, that should not have happened and i should have won but tough luck sort of thing. Anyone else had this and had it changed? I really want the item.

What was the bid before your bid? If it was say £41 then you will lose.

Also I imagine there might have been two servers involved? Not sure if this is possible but might be.

No, the other person bid after me , thus their bid needed top be at least £1 more than mine to win.

Yes, it was £41 . What does that mean then? being thick here, sorry. ..when i bid it had to be £1 more than last bid.

When you bid do it go straight to your max of £44? If yes this occuring is strange however if not say it went to £41 for example you only have to bid £42 so you can bid any figure you like so £44.05 would always win. I have won and lost auctions in similar cases.

I've won and lost the same way.

Bid at £41.
So I bid £44 maximum.
Ebay increases the price to £42.
New bidder comes in at £44.05, so ebay compares it to the bid, still at £42, and it is more than the £1 increment required, so it accepts.
My bid is £44 maxiumum, so ebay goes to the higher figure, now £44.05, and they win.
I always actually bid up a few pence, maybe I would have put in £44.16, and if you take a look, a lot of auctions do finish on odd numbers.

You win some you lose some, this one, rightly or wrongly, you lost.

If i was you i'd not waste my time trying to get ebay to help, just move on and forget about it.

top tip : - Ebay do not care! so why waste your time?

I think this works on the fact a lot of people on Ebay will bid a set amount so if you bid an odd amount there is a good chance you will get the item just above their max bid. For instance if I am willing to pay £10 for an item I will bid £10.18 because if the other people has a max bid of £10 I will get it for just 18p extra. But then the other person may have a max bid of £15 so I might still lose it. So yeah put your max bid in but then add a few extra odd pence to it just to give yourself an advantage.

In all seriousness that is a odd one though- are you sure you're reading it right? Not the automatic bidding or anything? Sorry, don't mean to sound patronising, I've done that sort of thing before- clicked on one wrong button and changed the display.

Multiple Item ('Dutch auction') listings are no longer offered on eBay. We're always looking for ways to simplify the selling and shopping experience on eBay, so based on the low adoption by sellers, we decided to phase it out.
Sellers can still sell multiples of an item through Fixed Price listings, or if they'd rather stick with auction-style format, they can offer single lots with multiple items.
