    Hi all, Happy new year,

i'm on for a bit off advice if you don't mind. As it is the new year and i have been called by a few friends in the throws of drunkness followed by the apologetic I LURVE You calls then again with the OMG i was so drunk sorry calls, I now have a few of them who would like to go AF and partially AF(weekend drink only etc). One friend imp-articular is keen to stop but has the will power in the morning but it runs a mile in the evenings, Of course she starts having just one but as yous probably know it can be a while before just one is only one glass and not the contents of the bar.

I read before about drops or something you can get in holland and barrett, i think it was anyway. But my memory is shot at the moment and i can't remember what it was called, eeek help lol We have talked about it and she thinks she is ready to give it a go as she has a few days before returning to work that would provide a break in her routine suitable for going AF without the added pressure of drinks after work etc.

Any advice i can pass on to her would be appreciated too, And well done to yous all read a couple of pages looking for the drops and i must say yous should all be very proud of what yous have all achieved.

    Thanks 3 x

Bluddy hell Miss P, you are going to be treated so well by your refuse people this year :rotfl: well done!!

Three2Be, welcome to the thread, there are things you can buy that are supposed to help with cravings and stuff. Hopefully Eselt will be along soon to advise cos I think she's one of the best on all these things. Good luck for January. Why not join in with our January challenge? We do it every month, pledge how many alcohol free days you hope to achieve and HoneyBear is doing the scoring this month. I'm sure she will be more than happy to add you :)

Just running in quick, crimbo tree's coming down today and I have the hoovering to do

Thanks for kind messages, DD1 is asleep in her bed, I eventually fell asleep at about 4am and she was still in Piccaddilly Circus, friend was still being refused by the police to get on the train and travel  DD insisted I went to sleep and said she'd ring me if she needed to and there was no point sitting by the phone waiting for it to ring. So I did. Have no idea about her friend yet till DD1 surfaces, which could be a while  so long as she's in her bed I don't care :). Kids woke me at 9.45am asking for breakfast :o got up did that, settled them in front of the telly and said I was just going for a lay down  then DD2 came in and said the telly's gone off (electric run out), got back up, put electric on. Laid back down then OH rang, he's just woke up on friends sofa. Told him I wouldn't be getting out of bed to pick him up. Phone cut off (signal). Then 10 minutes later whilst I was dozing he rang on the landline so I had to get out of bed  so I'm now up, drinking coffee and trying to find a new mobile contract through quidco

Getting hoover out in a minute.

    Happy AF New Years Day!

Here's to a happy decade, the first of many.

I wasn't Af last night but a thought played on my mind over and over again about my relationship in my mind with alcohol.

Why do I find it so hard to let go of something I have become less keen on? Cunning and devious indeed I let it be with me.

Anyway AF for me today, plenty of squash and pop to hand, lets see how easy I let it come to me

I felt that, and that for me is alcoholism.
Admitting I was alcoholic was the first step to recovery.
I woke up this morning fresh, alert, grateful and happy. That's all down to stopping drinking and changing the way I think and live my life.

This was my drinking - didn't intend to drink, then I'd have one and not stop. This was my alcoholism. Maybe some drops will help her, but I think the problem is much deeper than that. Who knows???
She may only want to get help when she loses her friends, job, relationship, house, health etc.
For many people, they have to be in serious emotional pain before they are willing to go to any lengths to stop drinking.
You need to be aware that you are powerless over her. She will drink if she wants despite your best efforts.
Many alcoholics put alcohol before ALL relationships in their lives, and end up with no friends or family.
Good luck - your efforts are admirable
