  • Morning all

Hope all are ok. I'm on the countdown to Christmas now. Getting excited (I'm such a child!). Piglet thinks Christmas is never coming, bless him.

Start of this weeks 72 hour challenge. Good luck to all! Thanks HB for doing the scores again. And thanks to Marru for this months fantastic spreadsheet. Unfortunately my score hasn't changed, but should do over next few days!

I'm going to make a concerted effort in the run-up to christmas to try and rack up as many days as possible. Have lots to do in the run up to christmas so I need to be un-groggy and a bit with-it (IYKWIM!)

Tomorrow is my Dads 60th so am taking Piglet present shopping this morning. I've said he can choose whatever he likes for his Grandad, so God knows what Dad will end up with! He'll love it whatever it is though as Piglet is the apple of his eye.

Anyway, off to get some housework done!

    Miss P
    xx

Dropped off the wagon last night so score is the same thanks Marru.

I'm not very pleased with myself at the moment as I don't seem to be taking this seriously

Another new hangover symptom I've been getting recently is sore teeth and swollen gums  I know a colleague of mine has stopped drinking completely because her lips swell up when she drinks, this only just recently started to happen to her and she's the same age as me! It was no problem for her to knock it on the head because it made her feel uncomfortable, that makes sense right, if it makes you ill you wouldn't want to do it? It's just a case of not drinking for her with no effort involved.....

Sorry, waffling now, off to work

See a doctor. Don't ignore it. While it could be an underlying condition, it is likely to be nothing. Be honest with the doc, tell him/her what you drink and eat and they do what he/she says. If the doc tells you to stop drinking, then be honest and say you cannot. Alcoholism is an illness. You'd tell the Doctor if you had cancer or diabetes, so alcohol should be the same too.

The way I react with alcohol, it is like putting a poison in my system as I cannot control it. Thus I had to go to any lengths to stop drinking. I could only do this when i was ready.
Luckily I managed to get help before I had lost things (family, kids, house, job), but many people lose things first and then get help.
I see many people who no longer speak to their children, as the kids have shunned them due to their drinking. Their partners have court orders against them. They are unemployable. This is what untreated alcoholism does. Over time, it only gets worse.

    Morning,

Just caught up with the thread after the weekend.

Welcome Signs, keep posting and popping in - it really helps. I'm taking it on a 'one day at a time' basis at the moment and it seems to work well. I can not drink for 24 hours, so I just do that and then string the days together...

JO, that sound really alarming with your gums and stuff. Do you think it could be an allergic reaction - perhaps you've become sensitised to it? Alcohol, and our dealings with it, is a really serious business - something I'm learning as I go through the process.

I'd love to be able to get to the point when I can have a glass or two and NOT have to tell myself to stop now, put the bottle down. Not sure I'll ever get there though.

I drank on Saturday night so I am on 10 days now thanks Marru. We shared a bottle of wine before dinner between three of us so I guess it was a couple of glasses - felt quite wobbly afterwards actually, and had a headache a little later on. But there was a temptation to open another bottle and carry on - I had to remind myself and convince myself to stop. It was sparkling water for the rest of the evening though so didn't feel bad the next day.

Have a good day everyone, stay warm and safe

    Precisely :p:p

    Anyway Hi :santa2:

Hugs Jo. For me I need to stop drinking period. I have pains in my side and cannot afford to let a drug control my life and dictate to me what I should be doing. I know you are strong so stick with it and all the best. You know we are all with you on this so go for it ;)

Lecture over I managed to stay AF last night despite going into a bar at the O2 and had a coke . I did think about a beer to be honest but thought " What is the point  " Why have something that I do not need or require to function in my life.

My DD and OH seemed to enjoy Miley Cyrus and I saw Christmas Carol with DD2:eek: By god I thought some of it was a bitscary to be honest and that was for me:o hope DD is not damaged physcoligically for future years. Manged to buy salted Popcorn and aside from costing the same as a small semi detached it seems to have taken a layer off the roof of my mouth and my lips are peeling. Not the only one with Oral problems Jo ;). Still drank loads of water to stem the thirst :D

Week for me now so will be AF today :D 8 in total please Marru

Work later after 2 weeks off so sign me up for the 72 hour challenge please Hb

YM, what's with the font??

GC, my doc knows all about my drinking problem, his advice is 'just don't buy it, then you can't drink it'

Jo - It might be the sugar in the alcohol that's damaging your teeth and gums. Most alcohol is very very high in sugar content, which is why it has so many calories:eek:.
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
  • Morning everyone!

I have been AF except for Saturday evening, which I mentioned last week, going round to my friend's house. I was quite good actually, I'm pleased with myself. I stayed on red wine, as I don't seem to neck red wine like I do vodka or beer.

I drank one bottle of red during the whole evening, which lasted about 5 hours, so I didn't feel drunk and I even went on to have a glass of water and n a cup of tea too, instead of more wine - yey! My friend got absolutely bladdered and was staggaring about and her speech was really slurred! It is always wierd looking on and realising that's how I get when I've had too many. Dear oh dear!

I've been AF since Sat evening and the next 6 days will be AF too, as I am working shifts all week and weekend. My last day at work before Chrimbo is Sunday, then I'm off - hooorraaaayyyy! :xmassmile

I've purposely not bought any booze for Xmas yet, even though my OH is saying we should get some in. What's not in the house can't be drunk! I don't think I will be totally AF over Xmas, but I am hoping I can exercise restraint to not drink so much that I get p*ssed and ill.

That, at least, would be an improvement on last year! :rotfl:

Hugs to all and have a great day.

  • Good morning everyone.
Well, last night I managed to restrain myself to half a bottle of 10% red wine, sipped very slowly. (I have noticed my drinking speed up lately)
As I expected I woke up a couple of times with anxiety and bad dreams, but I had made sure I had some horliks before bed, so didn't really wake up seriously.
This morning I feel a bit odd, a bit sick and sweaty, but so far nothing to write home about. I'm going to make a point of eating really regularly so I don't get a sugar low. I'm sure that doesn't help with the anxiety symptoms.
I wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted so supportively in reply to my original post. I was feeling very alone. Now I don't. Thank you.

  • :hello:Good morning everyone and a special hello to signs. Well done for admitting your problem and deciding to do something about it. You are certainly not alone here.
I have not had access to a 'puter for nearly a week so haven't been able to post or keep up to date. I had three AF days last week for a total of 5 for the month please Marru.
I intend to join the 72 hour challenge this week and have another three AF days Mon - Wed so HB would you put me down for that? I have a lot of 'do's' and visitors starting Thursday so I don't know how many AF days I will manage in December but I'm determined to have at least the 10 I have pledged.
Good luck to everyone and I hope you are all ahead with your Crimbo preparations. I'm not :o but, like the giving up and cutting down alcohol, I find it helpful to know other people are doing so well.
