Maybe you could start a little spread sheet to show you how much money you are saving by not drinking?

I sometimes out a fiver away for each AF day I have; did this a bit last week & had a tenner in the pot, which I stuffed in my purse & totally forgot about until today - was like a little present :j :rotfl:

I find something else that helps is not to have alcohol in my flat. If I have alcohol in I can't resist the temptation..............
What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Signs would it help to say start drinking later on in the evening to begin with - 7, 8 or 9?

    Hi Shaggydoo,
Yes, I think that's going to help. I googled cutting down alcohol, and that was a suggestion. I'm also going to buy a lower abv wine, as that too seemed a reasonable suggestion.
Maybe you could start a little spread sheet to show you how much money you are saving by not drinking? This is what I've done and I also record how many calories I've saved too

What a great idea. Yes, I'll do that. I definitely respond well to that type of positive reinforcement.
Do you have a favorite drink that you can indulge yourself in instead of alcohol? For me it's hot chocolate! (oops sorry cross post!)

    Horliks :-)
Edit Just out of interest did you start drinking more when you quit smoking?
Funny you should say that! I actually started eating after I stopped smoking. and put on a heap of weight. Started smoking again after 5 years, lost weight, stopped smoking six years ago again, and yes, I suppose my drinking has worsened then.

I started drinking socially, as suddenly we seemed to move into a group of friends where a glass of wine instead of a cup of tea in the evening when you visited was normal.
I'm looking, with interest, in all the replacement drinks people are drinking.

69Chick, hi sweetheart, re: the bingo thingy? It was 40sm who put me onto Bingo Britain, you deposit £5 and play with that, they then credit you account with £5 every day for the next 30 days. I am still playing with my free money and have won almost £200. My biggest win was the £50 but I have also won £40 in one day as well as lots of other small prizes.

I would however urge caution, only play it to use their free money. I guess they give you £5 a day for 30 days to try and get you hooked. Also the free money is only used in bingo they have other games which if you wanted to play then you would have to deposit your own money. Its just a matter of being mse and not getting carried away.

Hope you are ok sweetheart and looking forward to Christmas? Big hugs (()) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Hi Everybody :santa2:

    10 AFDs please, Marru

Did anybody else see The Times yesterday (Sat)? A whole section about women and drinking. I knew we weren't alone with our cravings, apparently a huge proportion of women drink wine every evening nowadays.

Must dash - going to print off my Christmas card labels and get those cards written.

Christmas tree up and awaiting decorating.

    Bye for now

    xx

Havent time to read properly, having a mare of a day and currently sat in the laundrette but had to pop on with the phone quick to welcome signs, welcome to our merry(ish) band of quitter and cutter downers, lots of love and advice and support coming your way! Re the sleep and dreams, you will probably get vivid dreams for a couple of weeks of abstinence so dont worry, its normal. Gotta get back to my drying now x
