Count me in HB! Need to get a few more AF days under my belt!**Keep Calm and Carry On!**0

Signs.
Welcome.I am really reluctant to go to my doctor. He's a family friend, and, to be honest, likes a drink or two himself! I just wouldn't feel particularly comfortable.
My GP is/was a very heavy drinker and he advised me many years ago to go to AA. Sadly I ignored his advice.
At AA meetings you will find GP's and other health professionals who have had problems with alcohol.
Good luck.

I did have liver function tests, and a scan a couple of years ago because I had suspected gall stones, but everything came back ok.
Go to another Doctor. Your health is at serious risk. Alcoholism kills thousands of people a year in the UK.
Just because your tests were ok 2 years ago means nothing nowMy pattern is that after my DH finishes work, we settle down, he with a can of beer, me with my glass of wine, and potter around on the computer, or whatever. One drink leads to another which leads to another. I can, and have just stopped after half a bottle, it's just that, after drink number two, more often than not, I just think "oh, I'll just have another one...." and suddenly the bottle's finished.
If it's a pattern you cannot break, then it may be an addiction.
I had a pattern of smoking everyday, and thus I was addicted to cigarettes.
You can have an addiction to alcohol and not drink. Many people on this thread have that. They are alcoholics who have not drunk for a considerable length of timeWhen I do stop at half a bottle, well, I certainly feel better on one level, but my sleeping is horrible. Scary scary vivid dreams, and such terrible anxiety. Now, I was an anxious person anyway, even before I started drinking, and I don't know whether it's normal for me, or whether it's alcohol.
I used to suffer hugely from anxiety. Fear is the overriding emotion for us alcoholicsIf I can hang out here, with other people trying to do the same thing, I think I can stop at the half bottle mark, and if I do that for a couple of weeks and get my confidence up, then I can go AF which is what I want.
We don't have a lot of spare cash just now, and £50 a week on general alcohol is beyond the joke, particularly when I'm so good at being frugal about cooking!!!!
If you can stop at the half bottle mark and then go totally AF, then go for it. If you cannot do that, then your problem is maybe more severe and you may have to be totally AF. Many on this thread try for moderation, and some succeed and some fail. If you fail, then the only option is to be totally AF. At least you realise that this is a possibility :TAnyway, that's how I stopped smoking (helped by Allan Carr) so I'm hoping the same tack will work with alcohol.
Fingers crossed. If it doesn't work, try another method. Many people keep trying the same thing over and over again (i.e. will power alone) when trying to be AF. It doesn't work for the majority. If the method you try fails, then try something else. Just make sure you try 100%Thank you thank you thank you for your kind, non judgemental, accepting words. I have tears in my eyes.
Day at a time. That's all you can do.
None of us judge others as we all have difficult relationships with alcohol (and life itself), thus we frequent these threads.
This is not easy - very few posters here are alcohol free, though many have radically reduced their consumption. We still find it hard. But I know I don't have to pick up a drink for 24 hours.0 -
Evening all.
Hope we all had a good weekend.:j:j
Count me in for the 72 `ers club please.
Welcome signs...well done on your posts today. Just take a day at a time. Personally I can`t stop at half a bottle so I had to remove the temptation entirely & stop completely. Its tough but I don`t have to think about it anymore.
Having that glass in your hand has become a habit too. Try & find something to replace the wine. Tesco do an Italian Syrah Grape Blush drink...I found it helpful in the early days....now I have moved on to lime cordial & sparkly water....LOL I`m addicted to it now...hmmm shall soon need help on addictive tendancies !!

ShaggyWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Dropped off the wagon last night so score is the same thanks Marru.
I'm not very pleased with myself at the moment as I don't seem to be taking this seriously
Another new hangover symptom I've been getting recently is sore teeth and swollen gumsI know a colleague of mine has stopped drinking completely because her lips swell up when she drinks, this only just recently started to happen to her and she's the same age as me! It was no problem for her to knock it on the head because it made her feel uncomfortable, that makes sense right, if it makes you ill you wouldn't want to do it? It's just a case of not drinking for her with no effort involved.....
Sorry, waffling now, off to work :wave:DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
