I am thinking about my new year resolution (for about the 10th year running) is there any hope - right now I am not so sure.

Definitely there is hope, there are lots of people on this forum who have really struggled and been in very bad places and are now doing brilliantly.

I've never been able to do the new year resolution thing though - I don't know what others think but I reckon - after many failed NY resolutions - that it's the worst time in the year to commit to change while everyone else is pigging out and drinking too much. You could just choose a normal day.

The other thing is what wise folk on this thread say - you can decide not to drink for the next couple of hours, or the next day. Any longer is too long and too difficult. So a new year's resolution not to drink is just too scary because it's too long a commitment to make, so that you're almost setting yourself up to fail before you start. Baby steps!

    evening all,

Mumofseven, I'm just going on day by day - it's best for me -why not give that a go, it seems less daunting.

Another AF one here and now away to my bed. Sleep well folks

  • Hi there everyone

I am a lurker on here and registered about a month ago to try and become AF.

To be honest I didn't try very hard. I feel that my drinking is getting worse and as a consequence I have not been able to go to work today and have felt terrible all day.

I really do want to try now, I went to Holland and Barratt and got some St. John's Wort and Kudzu which are supposed to help with cravings and anxiety.

I also got some Horlicks so plan to have a nice long bath with the Horlicks to try and get some sleep.

I feel really down about all of this, and haven't told anyone that I have this problem, I know that I am a bit cranky, I have lost all interest in work and home life, so I will for the moment come on here for bit of moral support if you guys don't mind.

    Thanks

Evening Habbit. Hopefully reading a lot of the posts will have set you in good stead and made you realise that your situation is very, very , very common, and that you're not the only one feeling the same way? It did with me and immediately made me feel a bit more relaxed and able to deal with stuff.

    Welcome to the forum!!!

I've been a regular poster, and then a bit of a lurker too..get posting. No one on here bites. they're all top guys. You might get the odd !!!!! now and again but they tend to go away quite quickly.

Urgh, it'll make the sides of the bath all sticky and brown. Don't do it

(*thats me trying to lighten the atmoshere, see?)

  • Dear GG pls put me down for 11 for November's total. ty

Marru - am going to at least attempt double figures for December so I'll start with a 10. ty

I've been really down in the dumps the past fortnight, hypersensitive and feeling oooohhh lots of bad, down feelings and it's the works "do" on Saturday. I've not been to one for about 8 years (money, kids, no sitters) so was looking forward to it then got really down about having nothing to wear and my weight etc. Went into an ex catologue shop today and got a beautiful Warehouse dress for £15 - halter neck and fitted on top - its v posh!! So definitely wont be drinking until Saturday - that'll be easy! Just need to sort out DS2 for Saturday and the usual stuff like shoes and fake tan! :D

Just back from Mr T's and didnt even look at the bottle isle - no alarm bells at all but it's my 3rd af night so hopefully I should sleep.

right, dog walk then bed! goodnight X
  • Evening Everyone,

Celebrity in the Jungle is keeping me off this computer!!!:D Sad I know, but I always associate that program with the run up to Christmas. I am focusing on that as I lost my dad just before Christmas last year, so I am already feeling a little sad.

Hugs to GP, remember "If" You were an inspiration to me, you are the reason I began my challenge.:T

GG thanks for scoring this month, you have done a great job, and thanks to Marru for the stats. 30 AF days for me and 76/100 of my challenge.

Its going to be tough at Christmas time, and I may change my mind, but I think that I want to try this year a little different, but I wont promise until the 25th.

Hope everyone is where they want to be this evening and welcome to the newbies. :T

The only person I've failed here is myself, but I feel a massive connection to you IM. I'm really sorry, I did want to be an inspiration to you Angel, and push you on towards you're goal.

I even considered not telling the truth and then coming on here on Dec 16th (my 100th day) and saying "I MADE IT".

    But I couldn't do it.

I'm being positive about this. I've saved a LOAD of brain cells through the time I've not drank, saved loads of money and lost a fair bit of wieght. I'm going to take a few days to get my head in gear and then start again. .

    Hello everyone!

Hi habbit, you'll fit in well here. All of us used to drink too much and, in our different ways, have moved forward.

Mumo7, stop beating yourself up, what's done is done, and just give another AF day a try. It may be hell to start with but the feeling of achievement afterwards is great then you can try some more.

Nettie, that dress sounds fab and such a bargain, have a great evening when it comes.

GP, great to 'see' you again and shame about your fall from grace but onwards and upwards.

IM, you're doing fine. Still thinking about 1000 days?

changingways, I would have agreed with you about New Year's Resolutions but this year (with the help of all my virtual friends on here) I have kept to my cutting-down resolution for 11 months:D This thread has been great for me.

Off to bed in a minute, sleep well all.

    14AF for me please GG

and thank you for November :A

    Hi All

First of all will everyone give themselves a big pat on the back....tell yourselves that a wobble is NOT a failure!!! ....its you gaining strength & learning how you can deal with your drinking habits.

Personally I have had years of struggle between drinking & not drinking...only now do I understand how it is for me but has taken alot of falling off & then getting back up again to get here.

So another month 30 days done.....I have no desire for drink anymore & it no longer features in my thought processes which I feel is the biggest `win` for me.

BTW IM will you join me on my 1000 day challenge maybe? I`m starting New Year resolution early:D:D

GP good to `see` you & please don`t beat yourself up....one day is not failure & I`m sure that if on the first day of your 100 day challenge you had factored in one `blip` then you still would`nt have believed how well you`ve done!

Habbit...welcome along. I could not have done this without the support of this thread.....I often would walk in the supermarket & see the wine calling me but then thinking of the guys on here somehow gave me the strength to walk past.

Hi to maman, netttie, jo, cw,YM,MOS,Gien GG & anyone I`ve missed .

    Be strong,

    Angiexx
