Morning all
Thanks so much for the support yesterday its really appreciated. I know my drinking is a problem, as do oh and the kids, I have deluded myself over the years that they don't notice, but they do. I know I need to sort this out. Im going to be possitive, I can do this, each day is a new one and I am going to tackle them as they come, and try not to worry about the longer task of being AF. Today I will not be drinking, out with kids so am designated driver
I must rush off to work
Hope everone else is ok, and in the place they want to be on their AF journey.

Good Effort
So many people are in denial about the effect their drinking has on others (and themselves), but not you :T
I would hate my kids to think of me as a drunk, or someone who drinks to excess occasionally. That only would make me feel worse too.
Day at a time works for me (and many others) - that's why I never give a monthly target. All I can do is wake up and say to myself "I won't pick up a drink today" - and that's what I have done for the last 2+ years. However, I don't know about next week (I could be drinking) but for today at least, there is nothing that will make me pour alcohol down my throat.
24hrs is manageable for me - the thought of not drinking for a month/year/lifetime is too difficult to get my head round. But today I don't miss alcohol. I'll deal with tomorrow when tomorrow comes0 -
morning all. i hope everyone is well. I too was thinking about the words that someone said on here recently about "think how lovely it will be to lie in your bed sober tonight". That really resonated with me and will be something I try to think of every day when the temptation rears its head.
9 for me please glasgowgirl!
I am going to meet some old workmates for "drinks" in a bar tomorrow night - havent seen them in a couple of years. I have already told them in advance I wont be drinking alcohol - I find this strategy is working well for me as a) friends are not then shocked/surprised and ask loads of questions when I turn up and order lime and soda and b) I know that I cant then be tempted to change my mind and have a drink as I've told everyone I wont! After everyone else has their first alcoholic drink no-one seems to notice I'm on the soft stuff anyway, so after ordering that first one, it seems to be plain sailing.
Am looking forward to going out, catching up, not embarrassing myself, getting home safely and most of all to waking up feeling great the next morning!!Sick and tired of waking up sick and tired...

It takes time. Drinking alcohol for many people in social situations is hard wired in our brains. Undoing this connections takes a long time
I always used to feel awkward when out, but a few drinks would help.
Now, I know the awkwardness will go after a few minutes, so I don't head to the bar. If I still feel awkward and uncomfortable after a while, I go home.
Me not being there is better than me being there feeling !!!!py or me being there being drunk.0 -
Morning all:hello:
This is the first time I've logged on since Friday and there's Soo many pages to read I haven't been able to catch up yet but I hope you are all well and on target. I will read back in my lunch break.
I didn't have an AF weekend but I didn't really plan to. Even if I had intended to be AF the farce of 'Jedward' staying in X Factor would have driven me to it!
So it's just one more please GG making a total of 5 so far.
I'm in for the Mon - Wed challenge please HB.
Have a good day.
