Maybe we can start a breakaway faction!
I'm still bouncing the idea of alcohol and why I'm drinking it you know. I'm currently split between doing the 100 days (well, 110 seeing as how I promised to hang in the extra 10 days until yours finishes) and then having a massive blowout...
but the other half of me thinks that would be a bit silly...if I can do 100 days, why bother drinking again?
Hmmm....Going to see how I feel over the next few months.

Hello this is my very first post.I joined MSE today and started to look at the various threads. This one immediately caught my eye and I think it may be one I shall be following regularly.
There are many areas of my life I want to take in hand but one of the biggies is how much I drink. I don't remember the last time I had a day when I haven't drunk alcohol but it was probably about a year ago when I had a severe stomach upset. I have quite a responsible job as a marketing manager and I never drink during my working day. Once I get in though it is a different matter. I have a large whisky as soon as I get home to 'unwind' then my first glass of wine ' a la Keith Floyd' (r.i.p) while I am cooking the dinner. I then continue all evening until I go to bed.
Realistically I am not going to give up completely (at least not immediately) but I really want to cut down and try to have at least a couple of AF days a week. So how does this work? I have seen a list of names with different coloured numbers next to them what do they represent, could someone explain? I really want to be part of this.

Waves to Su - welcome along - first post here -
- its easy done and the less you drink the more you save (very MSE!)
Some of us have decided to have some 'afd's a month and thats the list - they vary between a pledge for 1 day to a whole weeks worth or a month
If you want to join in for Sept - why not have a think about joining the September Challenge and pledging even a day to get you started.
YM (Yellow Monkey) is the scorer this month he'll be happy to add you if you fancy joining in
Dunno who's for Oct? (if no-one volunteered it might even be me.....:))

You're correct - just make that decision when you reach 100 days.
I only decide not to drink one day at a time. I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow, so why put pressure on myself now about if I will drink tomorrow??
When I wake up I can decide whether to drink or not. I know I can do 24 hrs without a drink - don't know if I can do 100 days, so I take it one day at a time.
After periods (maybe a few days) of being AF I would then have a blowout as I had 'earned' it, and then be back to square one.
Continuous alcohol free days is what I need.
Also, I used to hate being AF (I now love it) so the periods when I wan't drinking I was a miserable g1t0 -

Dont want set myself up for a fall, if I fail I'd then think s*d it - baby steps for me - need to see out the evil month of september first (redundancies, evil horrid family things and just downright yukky month here). Not up for a 100 day challenge (although I will keep count) - got my 3 month probation period coming up and thats scary enough (although we both know i'll prob be AF throughout) Hugs for suggesting it though.
And has anyone noticed we've lost an hour somehow or other? Postings are 1 hr behind.
PS theres a scottish meet suggested on the main thread - dunno if any of you lot were thinking about it (you northern lot I mean) - whilst it scares me senseless I was almost thinking of going..........I won't drink anyway so its not a risk - don't do that in front of realative strangers, or mostly other humans - ironically!
