glasgowgirl wrote: »Hi all,
Run up to Christmas so lots of magazines will be doing the drinking/how to survive a hangover etc features, but just read the Dec issue of Easy Living and had to say something.
In it a GP (the guy who's the chief medical advisor to Drinkaware) writes 'Common patterns of drinking more than you think occur if you're often at dinner parties where the wine is flowing, or if you don't have a stimulating personal life and drink at home.'
This has really hit me hard and to be honest I'm not sure why. The drinking at home bit resonates as to why I was putting it away on my own on a nightly basis - as I live alone I do often feel lonely, but just the tone of his comments somehow has really p***ed me off - 'if you don't have a stimulating personal life'. It makes me feel so lacking somehow for not being in a 'stimulating' relationship etc.
Grrrrrrrrr! Sorry, probably over-reacting but this comment just somehow seems condescending and unhelpful to me.
Interested to hear what other folks think. It's obviously touched a nerve with me (prob cos I know I don't have a stimulating personal life but for us shy, hermit-like types that's quite a hard thing to achieve!).

Hi IM.....& GP if you are ot there lurking. I am doing OK & still maintaining my challenge. Since August I am on 62 AF days out of 100....I am really pleased with myself & although I have had my low moments I do feel that I am developing this AF-ness into a lifestyle without the massive cravings I expected.
I am still walking....despite a very bad bout of flu recently. Planning a long walk with one of my dogs this weekend....think I shall explore the White Peak this weekend & can`t wait:j:j
Hi Everyone, its Friday tomorrow & whoo hoo !! nearly the weekend:j
I`m on 29/30 Fay if you are looking in:j

Nothing to report, decided to have a **** it night.
Hopefully won't be hungover in the morning. Last few weeks I haven't coped well when not AF. I'm telling myself that last week this was because I had a gum infection (unlike the previous three weekends when I'd overdone it at parties). Like PIR said if I keep having hangover problems maybe I can turn it to my advantage.
Keep at it BHB, you're obviously well on your way to reduction target. Do they say whether it's better to balance all the 'allowed' units through the week or save them up for e.g.weekend? We've talked about it before on here but I hate being restricted.
Very quiet on here again today. I'm sure it's half term or everyone is out partying!!!!0 -
GG, sorry to be a nuisance but friend just confirmed big birthday celebration next month. Please can I go back to my usual target of 10 days AF in November.0

Hope you all have a
GOOD LUCK
ShaggyWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Morning all you lovely peoples
GG, I think if you enjoy being at home & your own company then that is a stimulating personal lifeI agree it's a badly written sentence but I think (hope) said GP is referring to is drinking at home cos you're lonely/unhappy etc.
That's what I was slipping into & I'm very happy to be slipping out of it again
On that subject, I worked out this morning that over the last 3 & half years I have:- changed jobs 3 times
- moved house twice (both to completely new places)
- had 2 operations
- had 2 accidents (weirdly, the operations & accidents weren't connected
)
Whilst it's no excuse for over-drinking, it helps to see why I had slipped into it@ LBM = £15,872.65, now £10,819.82AF Jan = 7/? Feb = 5/14 Mar = 14/20 Apr = 6/14 May = 2/14 June 2/14 July 0/TF Aug 1/TFv Sept 6/TF Oct 4/7"NEVER DOUBT YOUR OWN QUALITY"0 -
morning. GG dont dwell on it. I dont think that GP meant that all people who drink at home have problems. Lots of us married people drink/drank at home too. But yes I think he was saying that drinking because you are lonely (and boy, have I done that in the past a LOT) is not a good way to go...
had an AFD yesterday so that's 29 please Fay.
As am not indulging in the Drink, I am treating myself by buying lovely shower gels - bought a gorgeous one in supermarket yesterday - gingerbread latte or something - £3 and it is DIVINE! smells just like Christmas! What a wonderful start to the day. have a good day everyone.Sick and tired of waking up sick and tired...

What a lovely idea MrsDee, I love gorgeous smellys, especially bath stuff, my treat which helps me to stay af of an evening is to jump in a nice hot bath when the kids have gone to bed with a magazine or book and then I stay there for as long as possible bliss.....I never feel like drinking when I get out, maybe I should just do that every night..
stayed af last night so am on 15/20 so will obviously not make my target...am thinking of changing my target for November as I have never made target so farthink I will sit down and work out when I will be out etc. and rethink if thats ok...will let you know GG...
have a busy day ahead as brother and gf arriving later and house is its usual mess, however tidying/cleaning with a 7 yr old and 3 yr old twins whos idea of play is to get everything out/play with water/glue/paper etc. I don't think its really going to make a lot of difference
have a great day all xStarting with Avon C6 target sales £150.000
