  • Hi all,

Run up to Christmas so lots of magazines will be doing the drinking/how to survive a hangover etc features, but just read the Dec issue of Easy Living and had to say something.

In it a GP (the guy who's the chief medical advisor to Drinkaware) writes 'Common patterns of drinking more than you think occur if you're often at dinner parties where the wine is flowing, or if you don't have a stimulating personal life and drink at home.'

This has really hit me hard and to be honest I'm not sure why. The drinking at home bit resonates as to why I was putting it away on my own on a nightly basis - as I live alone I do often feel lonely, but just the tone of his comments somehow has really p***ed me off - 'if you don't have a stimulating personal life'. It makes me feel so lacking somehow for not being in a 'stimulating' relationship etc.

Grrrrrrrrr! Sorry, probably over-reacting but this comment just somehow seems condescending and unhelpful to me.

Interested to hear what other folks think. It's obviously touched a nerve with me (prob cos I know I don't have a stimulating personal life but for us shy, hermit-like types that's quite a hard thing to achieve!).

    xx
  • Hi everybody :hello:

I agree with you GG - condescending person, writing stupid things like that. I'd like to ask him how does he define 'stimulating personal life'?

It was Mr PIR's birthday today, and I'm on holiday from work and I managed to have an AF day. Amazing. However, we're all going out for a pizza tomorrow with the 3 DDs, and I know he wants me to join him in having a couple of drinks, so I'll make sure it is only a few. I do not want a hangover on Saturday, I just cannot stand them any more. But it is the first time I have not had a drink on his birthday, so my self-control is improving, thanks to this thread.

Weather beautiful at the moment, but I think it's due to go cold again next week.

Maman mentioned the 'cheery' wine bars - I am certainly aware of them, walk past all the 'happy' people every evening on my way home from work. I just keep myself on the straight and narrow by telling myself that a lot of these people will wake up with foul hangovers the next day.

I went to Boots (am I allowed to say that?) tonight and bought lots of C presents so I could get my extra £12 in points and lots of 3 for 2's - oh I love a bargain ...

    Have a good evening everybody

    Night night

    xx
