It is the month of October, a resort town sits next to the shores of a lake.
It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is tough times, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.
Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town. He enters the only hotel, lays two £50 notes on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms
upstairs in order to pick one.
The hotel proprietor takes the £100 and runs to pay his debt to the butcher. The Butcher takes the £100 and runs to pay his debt to the pig
raiser. The pig raiser takes the £100 and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel. The supplier of feed and fuel takes the £100
and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute that in these hard times, gave her "services" on credit. The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off
her debt with the £100 to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there.
The hotel proprietor then lays the 2 £50 notes back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything. At that moment, the rich tourist
comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his £100 after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.
No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism .
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the UK Government is doing business today.DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Weather was lovely here at the weekend and spent much of it outdoors, and then warming up indoors with hot chocolate and home made cake!! mmm!! Managing to stay AF relatively easily - keeping very busy and having no drink in the house. So that's 17 for me please Fay!Sick and tired of waking up sick and tired...

A farmer stopped by the local mechanic shop to have his truck fixed. They couldn't do it while he waited, so he said he didn't live far and would just walk home.
On the way he stopped at the hardware store and bought a bucket and a gallon of paint. He then stopped by the feed store and picked up a couple of chickens and a goose.
However, struggling outside the store he now had a problem - how to carry his entire purchases home.
While he was scratching his head he was approached by a little old lady who told him she was lost. She asked, "Can you tell me how to get to 1603 Mockingbird Lane ?"
The farmer said, "Well, as a matter of fact, my farm is very close to that house. I would walk you there, but I can't carry this lot."
The old lady suggested, "Why don't you put the can of paint in the bucket. Carry the bucket in one hand, put a chicken under each arm and carry the goose in your other hand?"
"Why, thank you very much, he said, and proceeded to walk the old girl home. On the way he says, "Let's take a short cut and go down this alley. We'll be there in no time."
The little old lady looked him over cautiously, then said, "I am a lonely widow without a husband to defend me.
How do I know that when we get in the alley you won't hold me up against the wall, pull up my skirt, and have your evil way with me?"
The farmer said, "Holy smokes lady! I'm carrying a bucket, a gallon of paint, two chickens and a goose. How in the world could I possibly hold you up against the wall and do that?"
The old lady replied, "Set the goose down, cover him with the bucket, put the paint on top of the bucket, and I'll hold the chickens...."
Sorry

Have had a busy weekend and not been able to catch up with you all, I have noticed that Budgie seems to be back so Hi  hun hope all is well with you..
Had a completely non af weekend, should have only been Fri/Sat but our neighbours came over after my parents left yesterday with wine and I just felt like I should join them in a drink, although as it was in the afternoon, I was fit for nothing after that...I did however stop early and get an early night after Xfactor and Doc Martin and feel ok today..
So I am definitely up for the 72 hour challenge....hope you all have a gread Monday xxStarting with Avon C6 target sales £150.000 -

Still going with the AF approach. Bit of a conumdrum (sp?) for the long-term abstainers. Do you really think 'I won't drink today' every day? Or are there some days when the thought of alc doesn't even cross your mind? If we're still thinking about it every day, are we really free?
Just wondering if the time will come when I don't even give it a thought.
I make myself think 'I won't drink today' - I have a routine I follow where I specifically think for a few minutes about the day ahead, and make the firm decision that I will not drink today, whatever life throws at me. Then I can relax and get on with my day and not give it any more thought.
I am determined not to become complacent, as I know that this is how many people drink again after a long period of abstinence. They 'forget' about the problems they had, they forget that alcohol makes them miserable and negative. That's the alchemy of the drug - it tells you that just this time things will be different. And then a while later they are back where they started, and have to struggle all over again.
Am I really free? No, as I am and will always be alcoholic.
However, I don't drink, I don't have cravings, and I am very happy with my life. So I can handle not being entirely 'free' - alcohol at least has no bearing on what I do and don't do as a whole0 -
