The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 5

  • Hi all,

Sorry, been offline for a few days as I couldn't get access to a computer.

YM - many many happy (a wee bit belated) returns!

There's an interesting article about alcohol in this month's Glamour magazine. Basically it says that most liver specialists are in agreement that what causes the most damage is the drip, drip, drip effect of daily drinking - says this is worse than binge drinking. Not that I'm trying to condone binges! But this backs up the efforts of everyone here that's trying to make sure there's a few AF days every week.

Still going with the AF approach. Bit of a conumdrum (sp?) for the long-term abstainers. Do you really think 'I won't drink today' every day? Or are there some days when the thought of alc doesn't even cross your mind? If we're still thinking about it every day, are we really free?

Just wondering if the time will come when I don't even give it a thought.

    Thanks folks.

    xx

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I thought binge drinking was meant to be worse. Daily drinking makes more sense as being worse for you though really.

Wouldn't miss it for the world, Budgie! Really rooting for Stacie now - she's got a great voice and just seems like such a lovely girl.

Big hugs to you - it must be so hard saying bye to your DS. Not long til Christmas now - hopefully you'll be getting lots of lovely time together soon. In the meantime, you can have fun searching for stocking fillers and little treats to spoil him. Bet he adores his mum!

Not sure if I count as long term AF or not, but just over 5 months now.

Someone said in an earlier post today that the longer you don't drink for, the more the obsession with it reduces. I'm certainly finding this to be true and I can honestly say that now I don't need to think "I won't drink today" every day. It just isn't part of my life any longer - a couple of days can go by when I don't think about it at all.

So not giving it a thought definitely can happen (and if it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone!)
