  • Hello

I doubt I'll be AF tonight purely because it's Friday which is Pubday, fine by me as it was to be expected and it's my weekend off after two long weeks.

I don't think I'll be around much after this for a couple of weeks because I'm moving house tomorrow! We don't have any internet or anything set up though and I know it can take a few weeks for them to come around and set it up etc.

Shame I haven't got to know you all a bit better before now but don't forget me, I'll pop in when I can and I'll be back eventually. :D Learnt a lot from this thread so I shall try and keep it up while I'm away! :)

I 've not been able to get on the computer for a couple of days so I have a lot of catching up to do.
I had a go at the drinking quiz and I was shocked, I scored 19 points  well over the level at which one has a problem with alcohol. I'm hoping that coming onto this site and keeping a score of my drinking will bring that down considerably. It has certainly given me food for thought. It's very easy to think that because I don't 'crave' a drink (I just enjoy having a drink), I don't have blackouts or wet/soil myself and I am a 'respectable middleaged/class wine drinker' that I have absolutely nothing in common with the people you see sitting on benches drinking their White Lightning. I have more in common with them than I would like to admit:o; I guess we all do on this thread.
On a more encouraging note I would like to report to fayjmck that I am up to 3 AF days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Sadly I didn't manage it last night and I'm not sure I can manage a totally AF weekend but I'm going to try for at least 1 of the three days (I think of the weekend starting on Friday evening).
    Be strong everyone.

I remember going to my first group counselling meeting and expecting to walk into a room full of homeless tramps. Was freaked out that everyone there was from every walk of life, men and women, people in their 20s - 60s, business men and women, a train driver and a doctor were in the group, all normal people like me (). Alcoholism doesnt choose anyone in particular, anyone will do.

Hopefully AF tonight, doing alright at mo, but still early.

What scares me is that every time I've given up before, I've not only failed, but ended up drinking more than I did before I gave up.

This is how it was for me,sometimes I managed to control my drinking for a period of time.I never considered I could be an Alcoholic, even though my Mother was.

Had I stopped when other people were commenting on my drinking I would be a few more years sober now,I only did it when I had had enough,it is a vile illness and such a disease of denial.

I wish everybody well if aiming for an AF Friday.:A

The wine bells rang loudly for me and for a long time this evening. Nearly gave my star back for today.

Hung in by my fingernails and the bells have stopped now.

Saved by large glasses of orange squash and a big bowl of stew.

Craving choklit now - off to make a chunk into a hot drink now!

Hope everyone else is doing ok - AF or A - Happy Friday everyone!!!!!

  • I'm struggling. I've suffered with neck problems for years now. But when something triggers severe neck pain, I know all about it! I've had a whole week of sleepless nights, so eventually went to the doctor today. He prescribed strong anti-inflammatories and painkillers.

They're not working! I'm in such agony, can't relax at all  Another sleepless night ahead of me probably. Tempted by wine to put me in sleepy mode. But I've got such a busy day tomorrow, pain AND a hangover just won't be acceptable.

    Sorry to moan X
    Need to start again :o
  • Yes. It's learning to break a habit and avoiding triggers also.:)

Does the mean if you are hungry, angry, lonely and tired or a combination of one or any then watch out for the cunning trigger of alcohol?

They are all relapse risk factors. The more that apply, the greater the risk.
