I know its a stupid question but what if you are ONE or more of these most of the time?

I'm often lonely, I live alone with kids and often very tired. Does that mean I have to try hard to keep myself motivated or

Bit worried (just to put a downer on things) about waving kids off for two weeks on Sunday - I can't stay down south and I have to come back for work things which are mounting up. I'll end up at home in an empty house. Scary (I only know work people here and a couple of hte kids friends mums) this is definate danger time for me.

Need somehow to figure a plan to shift my behaviour. I should 'relish' the peace and quiet - instead it makes me even more crazy than normal.

That's not easy. Perhaps you should be even more aware of HALT when you are more lonely than usual, more tired than usual etc.
I imagine most people with children are tired a lot of the time. But the danger is when they are really really tired.
I used to drink sometimes when tired - a glass of wine instead of going to bed??? Bonkers, but I did it all the same. Same with hungry - if I couldn't decide what to eat, I would have a beer and think about it!!

  • Evening all...
Gromit, I don't think GC's post was aimed at anyone or maybe it was aimed at everyone.. take care out there, and come back soon. xxx

Fay.. we are all here.. (oh no..!) while your kiddies are away.. you are a very strong independant lady, stay positive, you can pm any of us or text.. (pm if you need another number..) we are all in this together... and many of us are lonely, most of the time..

anyway's off to zzz soon, take care lovely people.. xx

My posts were general, and not aimed at anyone specifically.
I didn't mean to upset anyone, and apologise if anyone takes offence.
I remember feeling upset (and started drinking more) if I thought people were talking about my drinking. They weren't, it was just my paranoia, but I understand how you people feel

  • Morning all,

Woke up at 3.30am in a blind panic, I couldn't remember letting my 16 year old into the house last night and had visions of her sitting on the step waiting for some-one to let her in , she wasn't too impressed when I ran into her room and switched the light on to check she was home safe.

I have to stop doing this, for my kids more so than myself. I decided I would put a signature thingy on saying 'AF since 10/10/09', then thought 11/10/09 looked better! Who am I kidding? I know tonight will be almost impossible to stay AF. I can't imagine sitting through XF without a bottle of wine, but I have to and it is so b****y difficult!!!

I see so much of myself in other postings, drinking because I am happy, sad, lonely, stressed or to be sociable- all just excuses because I have no control. Does anyone have a magic wand that will give me that control? cos right now I really could do with it.

Sorry for wallowing, I just don't know how I am going to get over this, when I go through my (rare) periods of abstinence I feel more of freak than I do right now, a 'friend' of mine once said that I was only good company when I had a drink and I think my hubby prefers me when I am not sober!!!

Rant over! I CAN do this, I WILL do this, am gonna buy some AF beers for XF tonight and cuddle up on sofa with kids, Harry Hill is on too so something else to smile about. :rotfl:

Hope everyone else is achieving their goal.

Hi all- hope the weekend has started well for everyone- just wanted to say I think we are all amazing, especially those of us who are hungry, angry, lonely and tired. I think 'shy and quiet' could be the new 'black'.

    Morning all,

Had to log on with phone last night, so couldn't catch up properly, hope everyone had a good evening.

FH, I hope your back feels better today, hoping the tablets are starting to kick in now? xx

Lurky, so busy that you haven't been able to log on for a week  hope you're well?

FPT, probably too late now but hope the house move goes well and hope you get t'interweb access very soon, don't worry we won't forget you :D

Heath, if I'd quit drinking the first time my OH said he thought I'd had a problem I'd have been sober for about 8 years now

RA, thanks for the support and for reminding us about HALT. It is true, I've noticed that when I get home and have my cravings, if I quickly eat something then the craving does subside a bit. It also helps if I drink a soft sweet drink like orange squash as this changes the taste in my mouth and helps take the craving away.

GG, glad to have you back onboard ;) xx

Fay, hope your trip is going okay? Don't forget I am available textually whenever you may need ;) x

Nessa, your post made me well up (that doesn't happen often!), like GG says, no regrets now, when we are in the alcohol whirlwind listening to it's empty promises and believing it, we are being duped and don't realise it. Now we have come to our senses, we must never become complacent and always remember that the promises are empty, alcohol offers us nothing but heartache. Good for you for realising it, never forget it :) xx

MOS, sorry to hear you sound so down at the moment, I have been in the same boat this week, wondering if I will ever be free of cravings and ever be able to get through a day without thinking constantly about whether I want a drink/the fact I'm not drinking etc etc. Instead of buying AF wine/beer, why not try the hot chocolate route or some other kind of sweet drink? It changes the taste in your mouth which, I find, I wouldn't want to then drink beer after, I also find that polo mints or extra strong mints work as the taste of the beer would be just wrong! I am also going with the 'colder and darker night theory' to help me through. I've decided that as nights are drawing in a bit and it's getting chillier, I am going to sit myself on the sofa with a blanket, hot choc, actual choklit and warm tea or coffee and embrace winter :D Good luck for tonight, if it really is that bad, why not tape XF and watch it at another time  xx

YM, hope the headache has eased :) x

Fedupski, isn't it great to be unhungover! Funny how it's so easy to forget that when the day moves on and cravings turn up! Well done and good luck for which ever way you are going to go xx

Hope you all have a great weekend. I'm off to watch Fawlty Towers on DVD with the kids, at 4 and 7 years old they love the old classics!! :D

    xx
