  • Hi everyone

I am a long time lurker on this thread and would like to join you in my quest to be Alcohol Free.

I have just given up smoking (Day 6) and now want to tackle my Alcohol problem.

I drink every night, be it Wine, Vodka, Whiskey and have done so for many years. I calculated the number of units I consume per week and was horrified, so I want to do something about it.

I would like to be just a social drinker, where I have a couple of glasses at the weekend.

I am hoping that joining this thread will give me the motivation, support and encouragement to crack it as you are a lovely bunch of people.

    cheers

I think 'shy and quiet' could be the new 'black'.

:rotfl::rotfl:Hurrah! We'll be the most fashionable 'kids' in town! :rotfl::rotfl:

MOS - I've been trying for years and failing to beat the cravings. I really loved my wine and thought it was a wonderful thing that really enhanced my life (yep - even though every time I hooked up with it I ended up ill, mortified by my behaviour or - even worse - in hospital!).

In this mindset, I couldn't imagine giving up the thing I loved. Even time I tried to stop I was thinking - "I'm missing out on something truly great that everyone else gets to enjoy. It's not fair!" Of course, I couldn't deny myself this fantastic "treat" so would always go back to it.

Now I feel like the blinkers are coming off and I'm seeing these nights on the wine for what they really are - dangerous, destructive etc. I'm starting to understand that I'm a nicer (not to mention safer!) person off the booze than on it.

I'm still in the very early stages of a mindset change, but I think/hope I'm kind of starting to get what GC means when he talks about changing yourself etc. I think the Allan Carr book is quite good for helping to re-set your views on booze too - trying to re-read a chapter a night.

Sorry for the long post - hope it makes some kind of sense!!

    xx

Oops, sorry, forget to welcome Ineedtokickthehabit - welcome on board!
  • Just to add to my above post, appreciate that not everyone who has a drink has these extreme benders that end up in hospital - I'm an alcoholic of the "1,000 drinks not enough" variety I think!

Now what am I going to spend today's "wine money" on? Going to give myself £6 saved so:

A posh coffee from the new deli along the road?
    Bunch of flowers?
    Pile of trashy celeb mags?
Inspired by Fay - some fun stripey socks?

    Decisions, decisions...!!

    xx

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica]A pea soup related joke: you must answer "pea green soup" to all questions - go on!
What did you have for breakfast?
What did you have for lunch?
What did you have for dinner?
What did you do all night?

Sorry, I know that joke is terrible but I just saw it on a vegetarian website and I thought of you guys on here. It made me laugh for some reason.:rotfl:
