OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 16th September

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 16th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning all

OneWingedAngel -
, good to have you with us
Kaat-lady - We miss you, come back and post with us again soon!
Reverbe - Forgive me for saying but that is the 3rd time you have said you cannot get pms due to not wanting to delete an email from Martin and presumably 40+ others.. I think the suggestions last time pretty much said the same thing; Copy paste it to a Word document or notebook or even an email to yourself and then you can save it and all the other 45 special emails you don't want to get rid of. That way you won't have to keep explaining why your pm box is full all the time!
Pippa - Congrats on your official DGS!! That is great news for your family.
Taplady - Thinking of you after your sad day yesterday
Donnygal - You rant away as much as you want hon!
Lillibet - Keith Floyd was one of my favourite chefs too. He was local to here and I ate in his restaurant in Totnes once.
kitchenbunny - You sound like you need a hug honey

Well the inlaws arrived yesterday and did a load of gardening. FIL is insisting on building a mini wall at the bottom of the bank with a few of the new rockery stones.. I only wanted a row of big ones there but he is making more of it.. Not sure I really want that but he isn't an easy man to say no to. I planted some wallflowers which I love and emptied a couple of tubs of old summer bedding. The patio looks a bit disorganised at the moment but I am finally downloading pictures from the summer of when it was first planted up so I might try and Flikr them.
We had a nice big salad and baked potatoes for dinner with yellow stickered 20p steak and kidney pies. It was very nice. I did eat far too many cupcakes afterwards though - blame Approved Foods, they just fell into my basket:rotfl:
My OS-iness today is to make some pasties and also a 'New Baby' card for a cousin, and also a 'Get well soon' card for my friend who just had her lumpectomy. She started to haemorrhage about two hours after her op so had to go back into theatre but is out now and taking it easy. She will know in two weeks what the prognosis is.
Hope your 'hump day' goes well... (and no, I am not just talking to Hester
!) Warm gentle
for anyone who wants one!

Work today and then window maintenance. The new glass units come today, so I shall install them after work and continue the undercoating.
I also have to check on the bees and pick and freeze the sweetcorn... So looooong day ahead.
Time is ticking on....so have a good dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hello all, havent posted on the daily for ages.
Yesterday was quite a busy rainy day.
I finally got round to making my marmalade with the sevilles and lemons I froze way back at the beginning of the year.
Postie came with my new Greenhouse which is all over the floor now as I had to check everything was there(only one piece missing so have emailed them).
In the afternoon I thought I would cook up all the Kidney Beans from a pack in my cupboard, they took 30 minutes in the pressure cooker and there were enough for 3 meals ,so two are now in the freezer.
I made Chilli for tea with the rest and half of that is now frozen too as we are only two at home at the moment.
The kids are back to university so it is very quiet but I am making the most of the extra space by using DS' room for my aerobics .
Hope everyone has a good day

Morning all,
Windy here today, but its meant to be sunny later. Its very dark in the mornings now, next month it will be completely dark once the clocks go back.
Off to work today, dinner tonight will be gnocci with garlic bread and salad,I need to get a couple of tomatoes, and thats it.
Garden recycling and rubbish out this morning, need to have a quick tidy round in case the estate agent rings with another viewing. Its hard being soooo neat all the time
Kaat Lady Happy Birthday hun xx
Sistercas I hope you feel better soon,
Have fun all xx0 -
Morning all:j
I wasn't able to have my coffee in the garden this morning - it was too dark:eek:
I can't remember who asked (sorry:o) about 'floddies'. The recipe called them potato floddies but all they are is a grated potato rosti, fried in a little sunflower oil:D
I've got year 3 today - the first time they will have cooked with me. I want them to practice using knives properly so they will be chopping tomatoes to roast with garlic and herbs, then they will go through the mouli. They also have to do their own washing- and drying-up. You would be amazed how enthusiastic they are and actually fight over who is going to wash! I suppose everything goes in the dishwasher at home - or mum does it:rolleyes:
Having read, nostalgically (sp?) through the 'egg and chips' thread, I have added this to my menu plans. Tonight's tea will be 'Shirley Valentine chips n' egg':T
Have a good day:j

Very damp here in Essex - didnt stop raining all day yesterday!
Today am back in the office, loads to get done.
Will also be making chicken stock today & may try to get some baking done. OH is at home and in the way - hopefully he will find something useful to do . I really like having the house to myself but no chance for ages
Toad in the hole with mash tonight - perfect weather for it :j may pop out and try & get a savoy cabbage to have with it as I really fancy one - then have a good chance of bubble n squeak tomorrow - my absolute favourite comfort food.
Oh & also need to do some washing which will be dried in the house I guess:rolleyes:
Have a good day & N9eav hope it stays dry for your windows.

Morning all,
Got stuck into house cleaning this morning. Made a loaf of bread & a lime drizzle cake. We really like it with the limes and I was given 3 the other day. I bought myself a new address book from NZ when we went earlier this year so I've been filling that in this arv (boring) as well as playing games on the computer.
Tea tonight is leftover zucchini & bacon slice with veggies & an iceblock for dessert. Hooray for the home icecream man. Have a happy day & to the new posters. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning everyone
I had a lie in til 6.45am woo hooJust a pity I didn't go to bed until 11.30pm
Kids fed, got to make myself a coffee and think about what we're doing today. DS has nursery afternoon everyday so our errand time is drastically shorter than it used to be. Still not complaining when he seems to have a good time.
Its supposed to be Spag Bol for tea tonight but I really don't fancy it. We've had pasta 2 nights so far (Sun & Mon) and rice last night so fancy something with spuds instead.
Got the usual cleaning to do. Had a NSD yesterday so was trying to aim for another one. I guess we'll just potter about at home, go out in the garden.
DD is doing more walking around unaided which is lovely to see
Lilli - :rotfl: Shirley Valentine egg & chips - hope that means they won't be thrown up the wall
Have a good day OS or not. Hugs to those that need them.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
All will be well in the end. If it's not well, it's not the end.Be humble for you are made of earth. Be noble for you are made of stars0 -
Hi all,
Welcome to laura and onewinged angel
Happy birthday Kaatlady
 culpepper
taplady ((hug))
It was dreadfully sad about Keith Floyd, I loved his shows when I was a kid - I still laugh when they show that clip of him making a shocking Spanish omelette and being chided by the French lady who takes over to show him how it's doneHe had a certain mix of humility, passion and humour which was very endearing.
OH was late back last night after he underestimated the amount of time his assay plate would take to develop ( I warned him they never behave as the instruction sheet says, he wouldn't listen) so I was asleep when he came in. Then I was woken up by him crashing about in the bathroom and couldn't get back to sleep, so I'm a little bit antisocial this morning . Dinner tonight therefore, will be what we were supposed to have last night, if OH hasn't taken it for lunch (which is quite likely) - and if he has, them I'm ordering takeaway on his card*detecting a slight hint of early morning rebellion*
I made some waffles (will post a pic when I go back upstairs to my office)
I have to go back to the dentist at 9 am - as she wants to scale and polish my teeth and do another preemptive correction in a natural rough patch. I have a very good NHS dentist, so it isn't costly (a tenth of what I was charged for the same procedure at my last private practice) and I'd rather that than it be a problem years down the line, so it's fine.
I'm still proof reading and I have serious concerns about the standard of the thesis now because of the number of technical errors
Right - I need coffee, I might become human then - but that might be a bit optomistic :rotfl:have a good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Good morning Chums,
and welcome to all the posters.Had a really good night's sleep, first decent one for ages, must be because its getting a bit cooler and I like to snuggle under my duvet.Today I am taking my youngest DD to Sittingbourne as she has two interviews with different firms for jobs.Fingers crossed she may get an offer on at least one of them. With Christmas looming she is really keen to get something to help out. At the moment she only has odd days at the local Dockyard as a tour guide and its very seasonal, she needs something a bit more substantial and regular. With five children their bills as you can imagine are quite high
Both DGS are in college now, and are really enjoying it. My eldest DGS hasn't found a job yet although its not for the want of trying. Luckily he kept his part-time Argos job on when he left college so thats what is keeping him, and his little car on the road.
The other four DGS are still in school, the youngest has just gone into year one and loves it. henry the rascal (8) phoned me last night to ask if I had a chess set and board and I said yes so he wants to borrow it as he and his friend have learned at school. So I will take it round to his house on Sunday afternoon and see how well he is progressing.
Hope everyone has a good day as its looking a bit brighter than yesterday which was very wet & grey all day.
I'm just going to have a rummage to see what I cancome up with for dinner tonight rather than buying something whilst I'm out.
Cheers folks, JackieO
P.S. I loved Keith Floyd he was such a genial sort of bloke with no real airs and graces. I have been trying to remember the name of the other chef about the same time. I think he came from NZ or Oz and his wife who helped him was called Jackie they seemed also very cheerful and unpretensious about cooking which I like .Some chefs on t.v. are a bit prima donna-ish0 -
Good morning! I'm feeling fairly awake today as the puppy-dog only got me up once in the night again - that's three nights in a row. Hopefully we'll soon be sleeping right through! Bliss!
I was SO good last night - I baked a cake to bring to work (I'm in a biscuit club, but in an effort to save money I decided to bake, and it's going down a storm!), cooked chicken kievs with mash and veg for dinner and did a fair bit of my flylady list. It's really hard to fit it all in sometimes but I'm getting there.
Only a 4-day work week for me as my step-sister is getting married on Friday and I'm the photographer . I need to try out the new remote for my camera and check my tripod is OK tonight. Oh, and Iron one of OH's new shirts. He didn't own a suit so went out last night and bought one! Need to check it all matches as I'm slightly concerned by his description of the tie he bought... Hmmm. May need to raid my Dad's wardrobe!
Happy thoughts to everyone,
