Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 14th September. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning. Greetings from the pointy end. Looks to be another dry day, must be a record!

Pay day today, which is a good thing especially when you get a pay rise.

Started the huge job of painting windows. I hate painting windows. But some rot had set in and I was not going to get new plastic ones this year, so filler and paint it is. I should have bought plastic 7 years ago! Ronseal also does not do what it says on the tin!!!!! 5 year my a$$. 12 months if you are lucky. So it's back to paint... Undercoat and gloss, 5 windows and a door :(:(.
Had to buy new DG units too in some places as they had condensed inside. I would have complained but the window company folded 5 years ago.

Work later and hopefully an easy evening.

Have a good day.... cheers

Morning N9eav and all who follow/cross post.

Just a flying visit from me as I have to try and get my work done so I can get to the dentist at 9 am. I think it would be a new record to get it all done before anyone else actually arrives in the building. :) Drive this morning was a bit hairy - they've reduced the speed limit to 20 for most of my journey, but it didn't stop a container lorry hassling me :( I'm only small, but I'm not risking my licesnce so some idoit can get where he has to go ten minutes quicker. :(

I am proof-reading a phd thesis. The sound you hear in the background is my will to live slamming the door on the way out. *sigh* I think I've written more on it than he did :( 41 pages down, 260 odd to go.

Not much else going on, tea last night was quiche (reduced rather than OS'ed) as I was quite tired when I got in and OH was late. Haven't got anything planned for tonight, although it's looking increasingly like veggie burgers :) I did hoover the flat and put a load of laundry on, but that's about it. :)

Have a good day all, cel x

Good Morning All. Half way through September then - this year is racing by.
Have woken with headache, not sure why. Didn't get too much done yesterday, but slightly better than recently, so shouldn't complain. Hopefully will have an even tidier and cleaner home by bedtime! Hope everyone has a good day.
Good luck with the painting N9eav - not my favourite thing either.

A bit grey and damp here in Essex. Still not enough to stop me starting the day with my morning coffee in the garden - with fleece over my knees:rotfl:Not sure how much longer I can do this.
Had a lovely HM chicken (from roast chicken on Sunday) leek and mushroom pie with puff pastry topping for tea last night. Was a huge hit. Hoped to save a bit for my lunch today, but it was tooooooo yummy!
My year 3 children will be oven roasting tomatoes today and using a mouli to make passata. We are going to freeze that and use it next week when they make pizzas! Tomorrow, the year 's are cooking 'potato floddies' from 'We'll Eat Again' - they are in for a shock! What about Vera Lyn topping the charts then?:T
Surveys have been done on the new cottage so hope for some good news from the solicitor any day now. Am afraid to get too excited in case it all falls through again.
A spot of ironing to do this morning before w**k. Dinner tonight will be pork chops from our local farm shop, savoy cabbage, mash and gravy. I have all the ingredients for a Danish apple cake for pud, but to be honest, sometimes I get home and can't be bothered to cook too much having cooked all day:rolleyes:
Hugs to those in need - and if not, hugs anyway

P.S. Lamewolf - how was your trip last Sunday. I went on the website and checked them out. I would love to visit as I am very into Jan Fennell's method of 'dog training' which is based on the wolf pack behaviour.

    Morning all,

Looks like it might be another nice day, :T, viewings were no good yesterday , but at least the house was clean, also I have another today at 10.30, so will have a quick tidy round this morning.

I have to do an online shop today, and tea will be quiche, with caramilised onion, cheese and bacon involved, will do some jacket spuds and salad too. Will try and make several extra ones too.

My garden is looking good, as I spent some time out there yesterday. I also enjoyed my lunch out with the girls, we went to a beautiful cafe overlooking the sea, and had lunch and put the world to rights, its something we are going to try and do regularly.

I have still to make my grape jelly, might try and do that this afternoon, it would be a shame to waste all of them.

Sistercas, how are the girls ?

OK, better get on, have good days all xx
  • Morning All from grey Essex

Office day today. Will put my head down & get on. OH is at home for the next few days so will motivate him to get on with some stuff too.

Not too sure if will do some washing will have a look at the forcast - some of the people in my village have put the heating on!! I am going to resist as long as possible but not as long as some of you hardcore people on here :rotfl:

Leftover chicken turned into curry tonight, may make stock today with the carcass or poss tomorrow. Will be using the lovely descaled iron later but not too much to do :j

    Have a great day.x

Morning from glorious, sunny, warm Lamb Island :p:D

DHhad the day off yesterday so had a pretty easy day. Just got back again. Heard lots of shouting, domestic argument from a couple as they were walking home. :D Where were we, oh yes, so today I caught up with a few things. I also altered a car cover for a friend which was a pain in the neck. I dropped it off at her place before.

Ruby Never mind. Your tea sounds delish.
Lillibet I can imagine you feeling like that when you get home.

Well I better go and sort tea out. Zucchini Slice, salad & wedges. Think I'll take the doona's (duvet) off this week & launder them and pop them away for next year. The cold weather has gone. Upward & onward now.
<hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Morning ladies, I have been up for ages made lunches for all the lunch boxes and started flying in the kitchen.
Sheperds pie for dinner tonight with some of the leftover lamb that I cooked on Sunday, I want to peel the potatoes before I go on the school run. Im having leftover quiche from last night for my lunch and the Master is going to have the rest of the egg mayo.
Its a bit grey here but I am hoping that the wash thats in th machine will be able to go out for a little while and the breeze might blow it dry quickly.
Going to try and get some more blackberries today as yesterdays lot got munched by the kids and I want to make muffins.
    Have a good day all.

    morning

Patrick Swayze has died- how sad I thought he was brilliant in dirty dancing

Redruby the girls are definitely improving thankyou, unfortunately I have it now -and I cant believe how ill I feel. the school the girls go to has been confirmed as a swine flu epidemic and so far 400 children from there have it
N9eav we had 'plastic' windows put in about 4 years ago, best thing we ever did , no maintenence needed , I used to hate having to paint the old window frames.

Essex - girl I cant believe people have put the heating on already

osi-ness today-- very little I will just wash up and do a load of essential washing and thats it
  • Morning everyone.
Clingy whingy child hanging off my leg as I type oh joy!

Chicken curry in the SC for tea tonight. Might attempt to do some baking today (I will end up with that on my headstone I say it so much ).

DS had his first day at nursery yesterday and he got on fine :T:T I stayed for an hour and left him to play by himself (didn't want him to think nursery is where mommy stopped and played with him - I played with some other kids at the sand tray :D). Anyway after an hour he seemed happy so I left him. Picked him up no problem so hopefully I can leave him on his own for the full session today. There was one child absolutely sobbing his heart out when his dad left, made me feel quite choked :o

Anyway off to check out the Flylady thread. I hope it is the kitchen as mine looks absolutely filthy - I cleaned it last week how does it get like this so quick

Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

Redruby - crossing my fingers you get an offer really soon xx

Edited to add - just seen about Patrick Swayze - such a shame, that man could really dance :(

  • I do like the idea of a 'Daily Thread' so thanks to those who maintain it.

First participation so I'm Laura, pleased to meet you.

Did my online banking this morning and am pleasantly surprised to only have c£200 debt although this will go up to c£400 when I pay the garage for car repairs. As I'd expected c£500+ debt with the garage payment still to be added I'm smiling. I'm hoping to pay it all off at c£50 a week so will be clear sooner than anticipated.

    OS things today:

    * am baking bread.
    * meals are store-cupboard/freezer.
    * am taking activated charcoal for upset tum.
    * am knitting gift for new baby from second-hand, free-to-me yarn.

    Enjoy your days, people :)
