What sort of thing do you like to buy for pudding? That's usually a good starting point as you can try to create something similar at home.
Fruit salad is always good for using up odds and ends of leftover fruit - you can eat on its own, or with cream or ice cream for a treat. Stewed fruit is good, too - I'm particularly fond of stewed apple with raisins and a bit of mixed spice - it always reminds me of being a kid!
You can also use stewed fruit for a quick sponge pudding or crumble - just pour the sponge or crumble mix over the top of the cooked fruit and bake in the oven until done.Back after a very long break!0 -

Hmm, well....
Black Forest gateau shouldn't be difficult now you've mastered chocolate cake - you'll just need to fill it with whipped cream and some cooked cherries or cherry jam. If you haven't got cherries, how about a chocolate orange gateau using some of your oranges divided into segments?
Muffins are really easy, too, and there's plenty of recipes in the indexed recipe collection. You'll need a muffin tin to cook them, though, which I'm guessing is an expense you don't need at the moment (I've had a quick look around and they seem to cost about £10). If you fancy doing more baking in the future, though, I can strongly recommend getting a muffin tin as hm muffins are incredibly simple to make and tatse much better than the ones you can buy.
If it's lunchbox treats you're after, how about trying some hm biscuits? Again, there's lots of recipes on the indexed thread and it looks like you've got most of the necessary ingredients, and you won't need anything other than a baking tray to cook them on.

Here's a swiss roll recipe Pink linked to on another thread
Obviously cost is an issue here, so i would cut the quantities in half, so it serves 4 - and leave out the chocolate in the middle and eggs - so i would just fill it with fresh cream.
You do have double cream, and you now have eggs, and you have sugar and cocoa powder. Hope im not a bad influence with yummy recipes.
If you let us know what baking equipment you have, we can brainstorm . Obviously as mentioned, you dont want to be buying a tin etc - so that's something you can do when your money is sorted.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

You dont need a muffin tin
you can just use cake papers
I bought some from tescos ( 200 i tihnk) for about 20p - they work fine, jsut a bit smaller than normal"muffins" .
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
ok.. so how do u make them?... i only have sainsburys near me.. normally order asda online but £10 doesnt warrant that..x0

What are you hoping to make Lou? If it's just normal fairy cakes, its that victoria sponge post i did on page 1 i think? Then there's a few comments after it from others too
With buns, you just cook them less time - check after 13-15 mins I would say.
Pizza dish - ohhhh! I spy home made pizza ! Have a browse through the complete pizza collection
You would make basic dough . Make tomato topping - some use tomato puree, some use tinned toms with some herbs reduced down. I would go as far to say you could probably even use baked bean juice- just had that idea? Top with leftover pieces of meat , cheese, veg.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Well done, lou - good luck with it.
Have you seen the recipes for microwave sponges? Very quick and delicious puds - can be made in cups/mugs.
I do lots of baking and always use 'basic' flour (in my case SmartPrice, but I'm sure Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrisons is about the same for quality) - just be careful when picking Plain or Self-Raising - the one I buy looks identical :rotfl:. I write 'P' or 'SR' on the side of the bag so I can tell them apart on the cupboard shelf!0
