Ha Ha Ben - Cant imagine the weed would help either! Maybe dont mention that during your consultation!

Oh, i dont smoke weed, just people think cos of my eyes i'm always high. not a good look, especially at night!
  • Hi,

I've just booked a consultation with Optical Express. They told me that they may put drops in my eyes during the consultation, and that I shouldn't drive for 24 hours afterwards.

Is this really correct? If so I'm not sure how I would get home!

During my contact lens check ups they often put drop/dye in my eyes but I'm always allowed to drive home.

I'd appreciate any advice, as if it is correct I'll have to cancel the appointment.

    Thanks!

They told me the same when I went for my consultation and I was quite blurred. I was ok to walk around though. The drops make your pupils dialate so you might need sunglasses too as my eyes were quite light sensitive. I got someone to drive me home.

I expect someone who knows far more than me will be along soon.
  • Hi Magic 57

Magic 57 thanks for explaining that to me. If you have menieres it is not normally recommended to wear varifocals or bifocals. There is nothing to stop you trying monovision though even if for nothing else so you can put your mind at rest that you are not suitable.

If you can adapt to monovision it really is unbelievable as the aim would be that you wouldnt wear your glasses for anything!

How high is your distance prescription? I know what you mean when you say you dont know whether to swap distance glasses for reading glasses. It can be annoying having to put your spex on every time you need to look at something up close. If you have a high prescription though the thought of being able to get up first thing in the morning and see without glasses is something to cherish!

Let me know if you have any other questions
  • Hi Treacle toes!

The eye drops that they put in your eyes for your laser surgery consultation will definitely make your vision blurred. Everyone experiences different amounts of blurred vision. The drops certainly can last for a good 12 hours but again this does vary from one person to another.

It is not illegal to drive with the drops although it is strongly advised that you dont. If it is a bright day make sure you take some sun glasses!

    Hope this helps
  • Hi
I had the best most expensive treatment, further complicated because I had astigmatism. I paid just over £2000. So cost does depend on your prescription and type of treatment.
The treatment itself is completely painless. I now have 20/20 vision, much better than I ever had with glasses or contact lens. Is very impressive. In short the best money I ever spent.
    Hope that helps.

Thansk for helping. My prescription is right eye sphere -3.50, cyl -0.25 and left eye sphere - 3, cyl -0.75

I am wondering what my intermediate vision would be like if it was corrected for distance. I don't mind having to wear reading glasses but what about mid distance. I know I am older than most having this treatment. I would jump at if if I were in my twenties. :o
  • Hi Magic
I have PMd you with some more info, please see your inbox.
At consultation you should be fine to drive, I did.
    Mid vision should be fine.
Close vision you may need glasses to correct, depends on your age.

I've got my consultation with Optical Express on Saturday. Who else has had it done with OE?

Anyone got any ideas on any problems I might have having more than one consultation in a day? I have OE, Ultralase and Optimax in Newcastle, and was thinking about trying to do all 3 in one day....

Out of the above 3 (Opitcal Express, Ultralase and Optimax) did anyone else visit all 3? Why did you choose one over the other?

I'm sure I'll be looking for referral names to get myself some money off too ;)

    Hello,

I had my surgery with Optical Express 3 months ago. I found them fine. I wanted somewhere near to me, just in case and these were the only ones who actually operated in Sheffield. It has proved valuable, as I am still using eye drops and they are free from the store, so they are easy to just nip into.

Are all 3 close together, as I wouldnt recommend driving after having the drops in at consulation - they are to dilate your pupils, so they let more light it. I found it hard to see outside for a bit. I am not sure if there is a limit as to how many of these drops you are allowed in one day?!?
