LOL I love the word unlimited it actually means something has no limit, but when you talk internet unlimited means you are in fact limited and you will be capped if you go over the limit of the unlimited amount you download, did you understand that?
This is the arguement I have been having with orange for 12 months now who capped me for using over 50gb of download usage per month for over 3 months. The internet was sold to me as unlimited so I want unlimited, but when I phone orange they indeed tell me I have unlimited but its limited to 40gb a month, huh?? how can unlimited have a limit.
It's like the NHS reference another poster used, its like saying the NHS gives you unlimited free medical care but after 3 visits to the doc/hospital you will be charged as that your limit!!! !!!!!!
The fair use policy all these companies hide behind is a load of garbage, whats fair use to one person will not be fair use to another!! This is just an open figure they can adjust when and if they feel like it accordingly.

As also mentioned the "up to" speeds advertised are also a load of tripe but I do understand that some areas can achieve the advertised rates, I always got 8 mb till I moved but that was because I was 200 yards from the exchange, now I live 2 miles (tops) from the exchange and I struggle to get 2mb. The rubbish they use to blame it on peoples PC specs is just scandelous as the PC rarely effects the speed its more down to the quality of the line and the geographical distance from the exchange. Yes an old computer will be slower to run and open pages but doing a speed test on a computer running windows 3.1 or windows 7 will be nearly identical (I have tested this theory).

I think its about time these ISP's stopped ripping the british public off and provided a decent speed consistenly. IF you take some time to look at figures from around the world Britains broadband (if I recall) wasn't even in the top 10 of the best. We ranked something like 12th.

    Rant over lol
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

or may be they use the caps lock to adjust the word like below instead of banning.

    unLIMITed
  • I totally agree that if the word unlimited is used then it should be unlimited. the problem with banning this word will be- At the moment if you have unlimited internet usage with a fair usage policy of say 500 mb if you go over I dont think they are allowed to charge you for the extra data used. they can only tell you off or take it off your account. if this word was banned then they could just put down internet usage 500 mb which will mean if you go over they will charge you.

Rather than banning we should be saying if you want to use the unlimited internet usage then it should be unlimited without any limitations.

    there are two problems
    1) fair usage limits vary; for mobile phone internet 500Mb to 3Gb are common thats a big difference
    2) some companies warn you if you go over, others only if you go over in2 out of 3 months, some slow you down but some will charge if you go over - possibly withouit warning

So no-one knows what unlimited means other than it doesn't mean UNLIMITED !

  • with T-Mobile, if you have unlimited texts you actually have something like 9999999 texts - i thinits safe to say Unlimited in this case. no?. With the internet (w'n'w), you are sent a warning that you have exceed your fair use policy, but the dont charge you anything for exceeding it. They simply restrict your usage at peak times, comanies claim unlimited all the time usually for browsing purposes or via wifi, but there is a download limit. Most people do know that nothing ever seems to be truly unlimited so why not take 2 minutes and check your contracts for fair use policy, on anything claiming unlimited. Or if companies like Tesco do Offer Unlimited Callls & Texts then state clearly straight away £500 Fair Use like they do on there website.

No need for a petition, imo
  • i hate the fact however that someone can recieve 8mb internet speed pays the same as someone that can only recieve 2mb speed on the same tarriff. this was me previously with BT but i have recently switched to Virgin and what i pay for is what i actually get.

I think that use of the word "unlimited" should be limited to the circumstances where it is indeed unlimited and thus not subject to limitations that in fact make it limited.

I word remove the word unlimited, just call it an internet package with fair usage.

As to minutes / texts, just say the allowence, 3000 minutes and 3000 texts. If t-mobile really have 99999 texts then you could get away with it as it really is unlimited and they won't charge for going over, 99999 would just be a system value to cope with an unlimited amount.

Makes the terms simple, don't hide it. Common sense terms in plain site, i.e. usage maybe restricted at peak times, then in the small print explain the detail.
