We've got about 10 bags here that have been dropped through the letter box and have about 7 charity shops in our town, so will drop them off.
And a few more a 5 minute drive away.

oooh! I don't think I'd like someone coming into my home and cleaning / moving my stuff about!
I like a clean house but don't really notice the wee things like dust on the blinds but totally notice when it isn't there. I keep the house tidy and try to have minimal clutter but she makes me glad to come home to a clean house. My big bugbear is cleaning the bathroom but as long as it is kept tidy I don't have to clean it during the week apart from giving it quick wipe downs.
I was finding that I spent one day at the weekends cleaning at is became a massive chore rather than just a quick hoover and wipe that I do now.
I worked out that for 2 hours it costs me less per day than buying my lunch so if I take sandwiches or lunch from home it means the cleaner is paid for with the savings.:TIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
This probably sounds bad, but when you are on the phone, do something. Empty the DW, stick the washing in, wipe down worktops, all easy things to do one handed.
I live away from my family so can quite often spend all evening on the phone, its amazing what you can do one handed :rotfl:
I don't suggest you should hoover or make a lot of noise clearing things up, don't want our love ones to think we are not giving them our full attentionwhoever said laughter was the best medicine has clearly never tasted wine

Try to get into the habit of having only one mug/cup/glass per person per day, so you don't end up with forty mugs/cups/glasses spread over the entire house and not a single one in the cupboard!
Put socks in pairs in a net bag so they dont go to the Bermuda Triange for socks.
Keep plug holes free of hairs by twirling a cotton bud in the gaps - also great for cleaning soap scum that collects on the sides - just don't do as I do and drop them down the plug hole.
PS. I clean for a living, and have just got myself a cleaner! In fact it is my son's fiancee. Her hours were cut at work and she was delighted to be offered two hours work at nearly double her normal pay.
I do seven hours cleaning straight through with no break on a Tuesday and she cleans our house that day. I can't tell you what a relief it is to come home to have the basics covered and maintained weekly. I have neither the energy or inclination to do anything other than the washing, dish washer etc during the week. I do try and do a bit at the weekends but it is an uphill struggle.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I spend my whole day off cleaning. It's a nightmare. My tips are this: clean the shower and tiles whilst in it. I did this today with conditioner in my hair. Got the Cif and done those tiles.
I hang washing on hangers; polo shirts, jeans etc and hang them from doorways.
I also had an extremely ruthless clear out of our linen cupboard. We all now only have 2 duvet covers/sheets. Yes it was hard, but I have put the bags out for the textile collection. Same for bathmats.
I have today sorted the children's clothes out. They have 5 tops, 5 bottoms and 2 pyjamas now instead of 20 of each. This is on top of uniforms. Their underwear drawers have also had a clean up. 10 kecks, 5 vests and that's it.
Socks are a bit different as I make a point of buying different ones. 5 school. 5 sports/trainers.
Before we had so many mismatched pjs lots of tops/bottoms that were too big/little etc. It was just a mismatch of laundry.0 -
I bought ones of those kettles that goes on the stove, put it on inthe morning you'll be amazed how much you can get done waitning for it to boil.Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
When we downsized to our present house from one that was virtually four times the size my late husband used to say 'think caravan' meaning tuck things away as soon as you can and if possible use every inch of space available I got rid of lots of tut that was cluttering up the place and if in doubt find a wall and hung things on it.in one of my cupboards I have my iron on a bracket hung up out of sight also my brooms and ironing board.Things to go up stairs get put on the bottom of the stairs for when ever I go up next, but I have to be a bit careful as I'm not too clever on my stairs and they are very steep. My brother put me an extra handrail on the other side so I have two rails on the stairs so I can always hold on to one. What I do is put things on the steps and move them up a couple of stairs at a time as I also move up.
i do my best to keep the clutter to the minimum though .I have a great friend who is terrific at clearing my junk and over the past year we have de-cluttered my study upstairs and where I am sitting at my computer at the moment typing .all I have in this room is my desk, chair and two bookcases and a small set of thin office drawers .There is such a lot more room in here than there used to be ,but she is ruthless and is right as she said if I didn't rid myself, I could have a fall in all the clutter
now my grandchildren are more grown up I don't need to keep the toys as much as I did , so they went to the charity shop. But it seems to be a battle at times to keep clutter under control.0 -
Becles, I have the kids and a dog but the husband walked out. Joking aside, it's amazing how much cleaner and tidier the house is!0

Morning all,
I wouldnt say these are tips but they are things i do to make my life a little easier!
*Soon as my daughter gets home from school i do a DARKS wash,so that includes school uniform. This way its not forgotten about over the weekend. Straight after i do a LIGHTS wash which includes her school socks-not forgotten about/cant find clean come monday! This wash also includes her bed clothes so i've done 2 jobs-Washing and changing beds!! This all drys by sunday night and i'll crack on with the ironing whilst watching a film.
*I get meat/meals out of the freezer before bed and pop them in the fridge to defrost-not forgotten about during the morning rush.
*I get everything ready for school/work before bed and pop it by the front door-nothing forgotten! (not the lunches!!)
*I have a whiteboard on my kitchen wall and always write down food/cleaning items we are running low on ready for the shopping list.
Anyone picked up on the fact that im quite forgetful??! :rotfl:
Im sure theres more but its too early on the weekend to think.
Only other thing thats coming to mind is that i clean as i go saves time and effort.Emergency Savings #73 = £1,500/£2,000
