Today I have clicked on a link someone sent me off msn. I don't ever click on links as generally they are viruses but I was in mid conversation and she sent me the link so I thought it was baby pics! I clicked and clicked run. Someone else came up on msn and apparently I had sent the link to them so I obviously now have the virus. I ran spybot and CC but they picked up nothing, I ran AVG and it picked up 3 'files' and they said worm AKKE or something like that and then crashed so didn't get rid of it. Please can you advise what I can use to get rid of it.
Also with AVG I have Vista (not sure if this is why) on a sony vaio laptop, but Any update/scan I do with AVG It crashes and I get a blue screen and it restarts the computer and when it loads in again saying windows has recovered. - it has done this for a while now
firstly though I would like to get rid of the worm as if avg is not going to work for me then I am sure I can change it
(Also.. a seperate issue, but better then making a new thread I will ask here - I downloaded Auctionsplash a month ago and it doesn't work and won't let me unistall - does anyone know how I can get it off)
Thank you

Avast works fine on vista but make sure you download it before you remove AVG. You can download the free version of avast from here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/programs.html
After you have used add/remove programs to remove AVG run the removal tool to get rid of all traces (again download before uninstalling)

I am scanning with Avast at the moment, I hope it picks the worm up as AVG did so I know there is 3 files related to this. If this fails (or comes up scan clear as Spybot did) I shall try comodo
thank you

I would have suggested downloading malwarebytes's (remember to update it first before running a scan) first and running a scan.
Handy to know the full name of the virus to give you some idea on how to get rid of it.
As to a antivirus programme Avira is good, it has one of the highest detection rates.0 -
I have tried all that and now the laptop won't stay on for long without a blue screen coming up and crashing it

in the middle of any scan it crashes
I have it open on safe mode , have no system restore points
I don't know what else to do with it please help

Trying chkdsk /f
ok how do I do chkdsk, I am not an expert on computers and this is confusing me
I opened start menu, searched run, then typed in chkdsk /f and nothing happened
The laptop has loaded up and is ok at the mo
(also how do I get rid of auctionsplash - that is still not letting me)

Make sure you only have one anti virus running (Use the AVG removal tool if your going to use Avast)
I think youve probably made a bigger mess of things by trying to install on an infected computer though
For now ~
Download MALWAREBYTES (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
UPDATE and FULL SCAN
Post the log here AFTER youve deleted everything it finds
reboot
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
When I did try and run the antivirus again they didn't pick the worm up, so when AVG did pick the worm up in the first place , would it have gotten rid of it before it crashed?
I shall follow your instructions now, will post back with the log, thank you
