  • . I wouldn't be doing this if i thought i couldn't cope or i didn't have back up plans.

What is this back up plan you have?
  • How ridiculas are you trying to turrn this into a sexist row? I am a working woman for gods sake, i have 2 children.
Lots of mums (LIKE ME:confused:) do work long hoursand shifts like you say but dont have to do the theory of a full time degree course on top.
Guilt trip? stop causing trouble by instigating rows.

I have done the course, have you?
I am helping my SIL do this course, she has a watertight set up and no debt.
I teach on this course, do you.
I am offering the OP the benefit of my experience, isnt that what the forum is for? Or should i pretend it will be ok to keep the thread in lala lad?

This course is not the same as other degree courses.

Me, ridiculous? :rotfl: you obviously think you're trying to give Cherrypie 'the benefit of your experience' and fair enough, but I don't think you've been very constructive in your comments. I'm not going to bother looking back on this thread so feel free to hurl abuse back at me. Just another supportive thread on MSE (supposedly in 'lala land') Enjoy :D

And CherryPie, good luck on the course. I'm sure when your children are older they'll look back and be really proud to have a hard working mum who strived to do the best she could for herself AND her family :A

Thankyou. That is the nicest thing I think anyone has said on this thread. I am doing this to better my family and I WILL succed. I have never given up anything I have started, some people are like me and some people well....

To everyone who has nasty comments about my choice, I don't care. I will do what I want to. And for whoever it was that said' i'll miss the mile stones, birthdays' etc I think it's your gulit coming across, I have non. I have been a SAHM for 7 1/2 yrs and have been to it all. Plus I don't have to answer to any of you. I am a grown woman!

End of discussion. I will update once i start my course at DEGREE level (amazingly i do know just how hard a degree is compared to college) are you shocked? :p

Thanks to everyones kind words and words of encouragement

with all due respect supersaver none of us know the OP or what she can and can't cope with.

I also have 4 kids one of whom is 10 months old and another who is severely disabled. I am also just starting out on a midwifery degree.

I don't even have the benefit of being able to rely on having my husband here because he works away for great chunks of time.

We are pretty financially sound. I have employed a full time nanny. But in many ways as far as the day to day running of a family goes, I am in a worse spot than the OP.

Will I cope? I hope so and will give it my best shot. Over the years I have coped with a lot of stuff much less predictable than a course, no matter how tough. And, I have no doubt that cherry will give it her best shot too.

As for not being around for kids, well, that's the cry of every working parent. This course is only 37 hours a week, when I ran my business I was working up to 100 hours a week and we are all still sane enough to tell the tale.

No one is under any illusion that this will be a walk in the park, but it is possible to do it. Lots of women have managed to qualify with all sorts of family set ups and I think it's wrong to assume that the OP won't manage.

Absolutely!! This makes me think of a quote that I love... "those that think it can't be done should not interrupt those who are doing it"

CherryPie I'd say 2 years at college is also pretty bloody hard is the financial support isn't as good (if at all!).really, all the best with it.
If you think you can't or you think you can, either way you are right :D

Blimey. Who was nasty, and when? If I was that self-admiring and judgemental I wouldn't feel the need to ask anyone for advice. I might display myself and demand admiration, though.

I'm just wondering how many more people the OP will tell to p**s off especially when they say something she doesn't like?

All this from someone so caring.

To say you wanted help with your debts I haven't seen any figures on this thread so far except 'help I've got six quid'

So you're OK financially now and not at your wits end anymore I take it?

Get back to us when you've got some figures, in fact don't bother because you didn't like the advice respected members of these forums have told you, you just like to have arguments imo.

    Blimey

I gave cherrypie a couple of tough answers last week but you guys are just gunning for her for fun.

cherrypie, I am very concerned about your future but not for the reasons given here.

PLEASE get hold of the university, go see the student finance people and speak to your course leader. There is funding that can help tide you over.

Please also get the right information about your placement committments from the course leader or year tutor. Different universities have different rules; one locally was making its students do 50 per cent more time in practice than required by the NMC but I struggle to see how another's students meet the EC regulations.

It is most unlikely that you will be allowed to do 12 hour shifts in year 1, or work weekends or nights. You may be in practice 2 days some weeks, or it may be 5 days. You need to know now.

In year three, you will certainly need to do nights, weekends and long shifts, but that is some time off.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

Sorry but you are wrong, students with children on my module with children acheive lower marks and have more time off.Last group of 18 to qualify only 12 got postes where they trained,4 moved to get jobs, and 2 are banking as hcas.6 dropped out or were deffered.

Do you know the exact attrition rates for the University of Nottingham course intake 0305 then????

Doubt it. I was actually referring to the course I did, not every course!!!
