On the first day of moving in i have already stripped 2 rooms of wallpaper, sanded bannisters and fire surrounds and cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms to a kim * aggy standard! We had planned on waiting to see what money would allow but i guess the DIY/Decoration has commenced!

The neighbours popped round on the first day and were really friendly. We invited them in for a cuppa only to realise we didnt have a kettle! they then invited us round their for a cuppa and were better prepared. We'll have to pay them back :D

    How's it going you lot?

Reality is hitting me as 3 weeks in several things have cropped up! Hob- broken, washing machine- broken, tv aerial- broken, car (ok not to do with the house but normally ultra reliable)- broken. It's all happened at once! Frugal Xmas coming up!

Congrats Bufger! Really interesting to read your progress, especially with the dates. Has inspired me to keep one too, so I'll post up and compare with yours when (if?!) I get to the end....

I found out there is no tv ariel whatsoever in the house! they did have a sky dish and the relevent cables in the living room so i bought a freesat box and its all ok. Was a worry for a while though, the thought of no tv was a scary one!

had one broken door latch and the toilet was never bolted down. Its all relatively minor so far so im pretty happy! The previous owners have been great. I couldnt work the timer on the new boiler so i text them and they came round to show me! very nice people.

We're still no nearer to completing!

First there was the issue of possibly having to arrange indemnity insurance for the extension as no planning permission or building regs can be found and current seller hasnt got any details or is playing dumb! Anyway after a few weeks of going back and forth it appears that C&G (our lendors) dont require us to have indemnity insurance due to the length of time the extension has been up, so that problem is sorted!

Paperwork being sent out by C&G has gone missing/been delayed/never sent in the first place but finally arrived last week so thats sorted!

However, found out earlier this week that the vendor has let his tennants stay in the house as they havent found alternative accomodation yet even though their contract expired on the 20th November! He has said that if this drags on till 2010 he will pay the stamp duty but what about all the stress and worry he's given us this week - finding out the house isnt empty, he didnt tell his sols to contact us and let us know as far as his sols are concerned we were aware the tennants were still there!!! We now have no idea if we will exchange and complete in 2009 or 2010 - very frustrating considering our offer was accepted on 1st Oct and he wanted a quick sale!!!!

Sorry you're still waiting Tia- what a pain.

Glad to hear you have an agreement re:stamp duty. Is this a definite- do you have it in writing through your solicitor? Don't want to be pessimist but it might be a good idea if you haven't done it already!

Really hope things start moving for you soon. Hopefully when you move in all the sales will be on and you can pick up bits you need for a good price.

Thanks for a really informative post Bufger! Myself and my OH are FTBs and have been saving for our deposit and have just started looking at houses so we're right at the beginning of our journey. I've printed your post off as reference, but will start a diary myself. We've been to our (independant) mortgage advisor who's brilliant and very helpful, and as of the 24th April, we have our mortgage in principle. We viewed our first house yesterday and it's actually everything we're looking for, so now where wondering about putting an offer in on the first one we've seen!! Mad? The fact that it's vacant is also appealing.

    Will update soon!

I am a cash buyer offer accepted on the 16th march still waiting to exchange and we will not be moving for at least a month after that due to us redecorating while in this house of ours..wife is getting itchy feet..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
