Its been a bit busy on my side of things, ive updated but we had a last minute problem that meant completion went back a week!
Basically the kitchen extension planning permission was in question, when having it done they gave building notice to the council and got a reciept, they then had it signed off at the various stages and all was fine. My solicitor asked for the planning permission and they said they didnt need it etc, i contacted my surveyor to check and he said the size of the extension was on the borderline on whether to need it or not! Rather than contacting the council and alerting them to it we negotiated that they would pay for indemnity insurance to cover it.
We now complete on the 20th, everything else is ready and im putting the money in my solicitors account tomorrow!MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0 -
Not been on for ages as we finally completed on Friday 30th October and spent the weekend in the house painting the living room from horrid peach to a more palatable grey.
Spent the rest of the week packing up the flat in London and moved down properly last Friday - what a hellish day. Had inadvertently left the interior light on in the car so had a flat battery, 3 cats in the boot and an 8 month old baby having an overtired meltdown. Not good! Got to the house just before 21.00 and the move guys were trying to work out how to get the sofa into the living room as the vendors had removed the door and put an archway in instead. Took it round the back in the end.
This week has been a manic session of unpacking boxes and trying to find homes, cleaning and scrubbing cupboards and shopping, Lots and lots of shopping - over a grand spent so far and still need to rip out kitchen (and bathroom in the distant future!) and get a coffee table!!!!
But apart from being massively tired, I love, love, love being in my new home and waking up to the sun streaming in our bedroom each morning and hanging the washing out in the garden and watching foxes stalk through at night. Oh the list is endless. It's just so worth all the stress and work that's involved and the worry.
Good luck to all of you still on the rollercoaster - when you get there it all melts into the back of your mind.0 -
Hi
A quick update:
When we initially looked at the house the tenants said all the white goods were staying with the property and now it turns out that the fridge/freezer is not - the vendor says it belongs to the tenants!!! Not a huge deal but we have an email from the estate agents saying all white goods included so we didnt budget for having to buy a fridge/freezer. Our solicitor has gone back to the vendor to find out whats happening.
All the other queries we had came back fine so just this little issue over the fridge (my OH thinks the landlord has sold it to the tenants!!)
Our survey was done and highlighted a few things that need fixing soonish like a few slipped slates on the roof and repointing the chimneys so we've been busy getting quotes for them. When the survey was done the surveyor didnt look in the loft (although mentions replacing underlay and batons etc in said loft!!!) so I'm going round today to get up in the loft and check I cant see the outside through the roof!!!!
Hopefully the fridge issue will be sorted soon as all the paperwork is in place really and we're just waiting to hear back about this - any suggestions from people that have had things included in the sale when they offered but turned out they werent further down the line?0 -
Just got back and the roof appears to be fine! Been up in the loft and it was chucking it down outside so if there were any leaks/problems I'm guessing the water would have been coming through! And there is no underlay at all!! Dont know what the surveyor was on about! We've had a very reasonable quote to fix the slipped/damaged slates so feeling a lot more comfortable about things now. just waiting to hear back about the fridge now.0

Thought I'd update! Been in house nearly 2 weeks and we've started working out all its little quirks...It took best part of a week for it to feel homely, it just felt as if we were trespassing in someone else's house for a while. Not nice and quite stressful! Anyway, parents came round armed with cleaning products and power tools and helped us to set up. They've moved loads in the past and this was our first purchase so I was more than happy for them to help and advise! Got to love parents
Spent hours cleaning kitchen - was unprepared for quite how disgusting the previous owner must have been, crumbs, sticky stuff, smells....all part of the fun I guess!
Now we look around we can see where the previous owner has been starting jobs and not finishing them...oh dear. most of it is decor which we probably would have re-done anyway so no big deal. But the finishing in the conservatory is a real bodge job and yesterday, the garage roof leaked all over some boxes....nothing important lost/damaged however. I think all the guttering (or at least a few bits of it) needs replaced. Had better just get on with it then! The fun of getting builders' quotes begins......:rolleyes:0 -
Should be exchanging today, how exciting! As soon as thats done i'll be a happy man :beer:MFW - <£90kAll other debts cleared thanks to the knowledge gained from this wonderful website and its users!0
