I haven't asked but will do. I don't know anything about rings that's why I went to a couple of jewellery shops before handing over the money. They both said it's worth around £1000-£1200 and considering I only paid £270 that's good enough for me. If I ever find out it's worth anything less I will get my money back no problem.

I would no buy jewellery such as an engagement ring from a shop as the mark up is a joke. Most rings you see for £750 for example, are actually worth around £150.

It isn't off of a shop or some dodgy bloke I met in the pub. It's a mate doing me a favour. He wouldn't charge me the full price.

To be honest I'm not too fussed about the price of it anyway, its a top ring and I was going to buy one in the shop for £800 which is nowhere near as nice.

Is your friend a jeweller or a thief?:rotfl:

Doesn't make sense to me, sounds rather dodgy, but if you're happy with a ring that your mate has sourced for you and is happy to knock a grand off the price for you, without knowing what diamond it is, well it's upto you! :D

The price if the ring or where it come from doesn't mean much to me. I didn't ask too many questions, all I know is I have a ring worth at least £1000 for £270. I also know it wasn't nicked. My mate does some sort of ring designing or something like that, I don't really know what it is but I know I have saved up to a grand. Money saving is what this sites about isn't it?

I was about to buy a ring for £800 in one of the high street jewellers and the quality, at least in terms of looks, was nothing like the little beaut I've got hold of.

The main reason for the original post was to find out more about getting the size of a ring changed and I found my answer out to that.

For less than £300 I've picked up a ring that looks and is far more expensive and will hopefully make the missus a happy bunny. What more could I ask for...

As I say I had them looked at and two separate jewellers reckon it was worth over £1000 without me telling them so I am definitely buying it
I thought you had bought it already?
  • If it / they are proper diamonds (certified) then the ring should come with a certificate which tells you the size, cut, clarity etc. This information will allow you to put a proper value on it.

for someone who is not too bothered about the price or where it came from you seem to have mentioned it quite a lot!!
as for your original question it should be pretty easy to have adjusted, a small local jewellers are usually more competative for price. Propose to her and dont worry about the size as it only takes few days to have it changed. good luck with it!
