For anyone to value it, they should tell you what carat the diamond is. That's where the value comes into it you see.

As it goes, I'd hate to be proposed to on my birthday, Christmas day, New years eve/day, Valentine's day.

My OH proposed on December 20th last year, about an hour before we were due to watch Romeo and Juliet in Stratford - kind of a late birthday night out and around our 1 year anniversary of us officially getting together. We're getting married 364 days after the proposal, we chose the ring together months before getting engaged, I'd probably have said yes to him the first night we met.

As I say I had them looked at and two separate jewellers reckon it was worth over £1000 without me telling them so I am definitely buying it

Thats why I might do it around the December time but not actually on her birthday. Might seem a bit tacky

For me it's not just that it's tacky, but it gives the day another meaning, whereas now I always have December 20th as the day we got engaged.

Yeah true and I suppose another birthday could never top the engagement one. I dont know if I could keep/hide the ring for another 3months but wanted to do it in December

If I were you, I'd take it back and ask what size the diamond is, that way you know you haven't been taken for a ride.

You said it's about £1200 in other shops, but you can't just compare it by a similar looking one, it all depends on what carat the diamond is.

And there's nothing wrong with proposing on her bday, propose when you want to, not when you think you should.

I haven't compared it, the person who got me it works with jewellery and is a good friend. The tage said 1275. I took that off and took it to two other jewellers who both said it's worth over a grand.

The only info I know is it's and 18 carat white gold ring. I paid £270 for it, not the full value.

Sorry, it's with you saying that it is £1275 in the shops. Anyone could put a price tag on anything for any amount.

Thing is, a jeweller worth their weight would tell you what the diamond is.

And why would they knock £1000 off the price?

I'm not disputing it, just doesn't quite add up
