    Big bump!

We are waiting for the mortgage offer to go to the solicitors! The survey came back with a couple of minor points, like there is no central heating and there is a slate loose on the roof, so we're happy about that.

The bank are seriously taking their time on this. So much paperwork, some of it was posted to us during the strike, got lost, but was extremely important. The vendors of our house were getting rather hacked off and turned up on our doorstep unannounced today wanting a clear explanation. We're not bothered that they turned up out of the blue, just glad the house was tidy, and we were able to reassure them that we are still very keen and we're sorry for the delay.

The holiday was fab btw, got a stunning tan. Asked OH to marry me and the daft so and so said yes. No money to get married though so it will wait for a couple of years.

The vendors are in a rush for our money, the solicitor has told us she wants the offer on her desk on Tuesday at the latest, and the bank have admitted they have been a bit slow and are now pushing things as hard as they can. The vendors have said that that we can exchange and complete within a couple of days if we want so they are all ready for going. They are moving literally over the road from the house we are buying, so we're happy to know they got what they wanted (they thought they couldn't afford it but did some negotiating and got it for the right price).

Our biggest problem right now is choosing colour schemes that we can both agree on lol.

Yay, really excited now!!!! Off to chinese takeaway because we can't decide what to have for tea!!
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

  • Aw gutted screamer, i guess there's no chance for us now then :o(

    Congrats on him saying yes!!!

Glad things are moving along for you too, survey seems good, but what about the central heating? none at all? can you afford to sort it out?

Colours should be magnolia, at least for the first 12 months until you can decide what you wanna do with the place

And what did you have for your tea? - lol

Hola Carlos, nice to see you!

Even more to report today. We've been to the solicitors today, paid our deposit and her fees and now are waiting for the bank to cough up their share. It can take between 2 and 7 days so you could say OH has bought me a very expensive christmas present, as we'll have the keys this time next week (fingers crossed anyway!). YAY!!!

To answer your question about the heating hunni, there are 3 gas heaters and a boiler in the kitchen to heat the water, but something that struck me a while ago is a Warm Front grant. I'm disabled you see and after making enquiries directly through Warm Front, it appears that we're eligible for a grant to do the central heating, top up the loft insulation and cavity wall insulation. The vendors say they've never found a need for central heating though so have never considered upgrading from the gas heaters (and gas fire in the living room). Applying for this grant is the first thing we'll be doing when everything is finalised.

I guess that's a big fat yes to that question.

Unfortunately though hunni, you're too young for me ;-)

Thank you to yorkie1 too. We'll not be getting married yet, but sometime in the next 5 years we will be (he's 40 in 5 years and will be hacked off if he hasn't done it by then. I will too lol).

I guess 2 months between having the mortgage accepted and echange and completion isn't too bad!!

    Where's the pics Carlos??

    Yay, now we're getting somewhere.

Exchange and completion on Tuesday. We get the keys Tuesday afternoon so we start decorating after Christmas.

Less than 2 months from having the offer accepted and getting the keys. Has to be a record!!

Carlos, are you insane? That's a lot of work you're taking on!!

Yay got the keys. Not bad going. We got the offer accepted on the 30th October, and took a 2 week holiday and it's still only taken 7 weeks from start to finish.

Just got to get it through to the vendors that they don't live there any more! The cheeky so and so's came round when they saw the car parked in the drive. We were upstairs and he came into the kitchen shouting us. I don't like it but too polite to say anything so having a gripe on here. They called us yesterday and asked if it was OK to store a few things in the garage. We said OK but now it transpires that one of the things they're storing is THEIR CAR!!!! Definately not happy.

Need advice on how to politely tell them to CLEAR OFF!! We don't take well to being told what to do in OUR HOUSE! This may seem rude but they've been awkward from start to finish and now we want to get on with our own thing. We didn't even get the key until just before 5pm tonight after they told us yesterday morning that they'd be done this morning.

On a plus note, OH isn't hanging around in regards to getting things we need. New light fittings and shades are ordered. New cooker arriving next Wednesday. Super fast internet being installed before we actually move out of this house :-) Just hoping the Christmas hangover subsides before Sunday so we can start decorating. Can't wait to get rid of the 20 year old wallpaper.

Sorry, just had to have a moan! I guess now the REALLY HARD WORK begins :-(

    Hey Screamer,

Been reading this thread from start to finish as I am new here. Wow what a journey of emotions you've been through! Trust me we are the same boat, so know the feeling!

Glad everything worked out for you both eventually!

Can't really advise on asking them to clear out though - i'm like you, too polite! But it is 'officially' your property now, and are well within your rights to ask them to do one! :-)

You should do so sooner rather than later though. Although they may think they've done you a favour in selling you their house, this kind of thing can potentially drag on if its not nipped in the bud soon.

    All the best!

    JerKar.

Got it sorted. After reading JerKar's post I gave them a call and told them we'll be storing stuff in there and that we need the key. It transpires that they're going away next Monday and they'll be out by Sunday. Good news on our part but why they couldn't tell us that last night I'll never know. So thanks JerKar, I always take advice when it's given.

The ups and downs are starting. OH and I can't agree about the living room needing super fresco wallpaper. Now I know why it DOES need it, he doesn't even know what it is but says we don't need any.

Anyone got a very large hammer? We've got a patio now, I can bury him under it if he gives me any more grief lol.

Tonight is the hunt for a plumber to come fit our brand spanking new gas cooker. Yay and boo! You could say this is where our diary begins!!
