No articles, no internet, no journals? Where on earth did you get any information from?0 -
Firstly, don't get yourself in a panic, or let all this put you off, you've got into 3rd year, so take the bull by the horns!
It won't take you long to pick up the Harvard referencing system. A few quick googles will show you the basics. Ask tutors, read referencing at the back of books, be proactive about it and it will all fall into place.
I used to get myself tied up in knots about referencing, I came back to studying at the age of 32 and hadn't done anything academic since I was 17! But it's second nature to me now, and with a bit of effort it will be for you too.
Is Caley back now then?
Thanks, i know that once i get to grips with it i'll be ok. Which was why i started this thread in the first place, to see if anyone else has been through what i am going through just now. I didn't intend to start any of this cattyness or anything.
Caley goes back on the 21st, but all the inductions and registering are going on this week.0 -

no, nothing, Infact i didn't even know what journals were until last week at summer school.
We had booklet handout type things, from the SQA that had all the information in them that we needed.
The only time we used a book was in the international tourist destinations class, but that was an atlas..lol!
We had a graded unit to do in both hnc and hnd, though the hnd one was totally different, we picked our own topic and worked on it ourselves. I got information from the internet for that mostly, and interviewed someone as well. But again never told about refrencing or anything. Like if there was a stastic or something, in my essays i would just write...so many people come to glasow every week, and i think that this is good because.... etc0 -

And you didn't get marked down for that? Amazing!
The idea of doing degree level study just with worksheets beggars belief - it sounds more like GCSE!0 -
What uni are you at and what is your degree in? I have NEVER heard of this before.
I am at the University of Glasgow doing a degree in geography. Glasgow University has honours being third and fourth year, and Edinburgh, Aberdeen, St Andrews, and Dundee work in that way. I don't know if any of the others do.littlepinkstars44 wrote: »Well i passed my hnd without using any books, or quoting anything.

My teaching degree is a 4 year course anyway, it can't be done in 3.Come ride with me, through the veins of history...

The faculty of law, arts and social sciences at Strathy has a designated degree structure, with the option of doing one year honours (4th year) dependant on the grade you get for your ordinary degree (obtained after 3 years).

You can do a designated degree at Glasgow too, so that you finish after third year. Some departments might allow you to top that up to an honours degree if you do well, others won't. It really depends on their own structures.0 -

There is lots of information on harvard refs on the internet. I suggest that you get the Stella Cottell handbook: The Study Skills Handbook which helps to prepare you for university and has lots on information on how to do references.
Good luck.0
