Good haul of bargains there!
The milk bag thing does seem good, especially if they recycle the bags. Our local council recycle the plastic milk bottles now, but before they did I used to keep them for plant pots for seedlings and mini-cloche things for planting out little plants. You can end up with rather a lot though!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Doh! I was thinking of cartons when I said the packaging isn't recycleable (I had trouble spelling that
).... of course cartons are! Thats a good idea to use them as little plantpots, Squizz - but yes, you can only use so many :rotfl:
Dragon - I don't use milk for myself at all, which is why I'm focussing on freezing small portions for visitors - I don't even use soy milk any more, I just eat soybeans each day, its cheaper
And - ta-da! - its all done (except the floor laying but that wasn't supposed to be done today). Curtain rails up, loo roll holder, soap dispenser, in the downstairs one there's more fiddly bits done. While they were doing all of that, I was bagging up some leaves, moving spare bricks from the front of the house, feeding the birds (and its a sight more than tuppence a bag, I can tell you :rotfl:) and sorting the tree and bringing it into the house.
In fact, it won't be so much a tree, more a mini-coppice - several sturdy branches have been called upon to assist the original tree, because I think I have a *lot* of ornaments :rotfl: if it doesn't work I'll just pull them out of the cat litter and stick them somewhere else. This is going to be fun, if a little slow - the branches aren't even painted yet, and the aluminium bucket needs to be cleaned *really* well to have it inside the house again. It'll probably get finished on Christmas Eve, which is fine by me.
Quick cup of tea, quick look round the boards, and a client coming along in 45 mins. Pretty good day.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

You know what, Dragon, when the builders had gone, and I sat there, I had a little tear in my eye - not much of a one, because there's still a fair bit to do - I feel like I haven't lived in a comfortable house since I left my central town house, back in 1998. And this one is going to be lovely - still needs stuff, and the spends have gone over a bit because of things that needed doing, but thats okay, its *mine*, and its lovely!
Shutting down now, got to work, hope everyone is having a good afternoon.

KC you sound as close to contentment as you are likely to get at the moment. Enjoy it.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0

I posted on Hypno's thread the other day about how content with life she sonded, and now I think it must be catching as it's spread over here as well!
I buy milk in 4 pint bottles and decant it into old 1 pint bottles for freezing. Works well for me and I'd much rather pay 25p a pint, as it works out, than paying, what is it, 45p for a single pint bottle these days in Tesco? That was a good haul of goodies you got in Sainsburys KC - well done on that. It's useful when you start to get a really good idea of the times when your local places do their best reductions.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

The house really sounds like it's becoming a home now and the looring will make such a difference as well.0

Thank you all! Yes, contentment in a home that feels good - thats what I have right now! There are issues, of course - the double glazing is really crap, especially the doors, for instance, but having done it previously, even tho it costs money, its two days by specialists. Nothing!
So the thing now is to get the place ready for Christmas - the mini trees, for instance, are in the middle of the living room floor, drying out on an unused shower curtainAnd its really important to do my version of what Hypno's doing - live a life while doing what needs to be done! Which means
Christmas
look after my health
get some local activities and friends
and generally enjoy life :j
