I'm wondering about this leccy man, actually - he agreed to come around so quickly, and didn't try to defend his work - it makes me wonder if he was just trying to get away with stuff, because I live in a little house and he lives in a socking great big one .... it feels like he *knew* he'd done substandard work, the way he didn't defend himself ....2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hmm it's possible - he maybe knew he didn't do a good job but thought you might not bring it up - good that you did and that you're getting it fixed quickly though!Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
I agree, probably thought he'd get away with it, very often that happens when they see a single female - guess he didnt reckon on KC!0

Good for you sorting the leccy man out.
I once had a plumber who came to give me a quote to plumb in a dishwasher. He started to tell me that he would need permission from the water company to turn off the water, that he would have to turn it off for the whole street and that would cost £400 ! I let him go on for about 5 minutes then I asked him if he saw my left leg, he asked me what I meant and I said that if he pulled that one hard enough it had bells on it! He was rather stunned as I took him by the elbow and marched him to the front door as I was telling him that I was going to report him to trading standards. Couldnt get out quick enough. Oh to be 20 and that gobby againnowadays I would probably just say nowt other than I will have to think about it. It is hard to be firm with tradespeople.

Thanks folks! Yes, its a much nicer job of work now - it can just be painted, not have me fiddling around with it.
Cherisong! Thats brilliant! I'd certainly say that now if I could be that witty spontaneously :rotfl: my brother has that scouse thing where everything he says is stand up comedy material, but I don't - I'm gobby as in verbose, sadly :rotfl:
Erm, I didn't do the accounts tho - I've been sorting through old school/college/nightschool notes and essays and exam papers .... I'd have sworn blind I never studied the Nazis, but there's a 6 page essay in my writingand loads of economic stuff, which I've kept - its funny, me being about to do the trading now - there's an essay by me on currency futures  (for my business qualification, not my arts degree :rotfl:)
I'll have a walk, then I *might* do something. I'll use my energy, but I won't be a slave to it.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Most of the stuff I did in school was with the "forget it before the ink dries in case it leaves a stain in your brain" ethos.

Well done on the leccy man KC! :T And you too cherisong, that's a classic! :rotfl: Did you ring trading standards?? I so wish I could do that :rotfl: I just have an inbuilt politeness, no matter how much I'm being ripped off  Must try harder
(although I must confess to having just sent an extremely snotty email around at my PhD department)

Thanks both! I love the idea of a stain in the brain
Snotty emails are the start, Cheery, we'll have you standing up for your rights in no time!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well, as usual, my snotty self righteous email backfired on me :rotfl:
We have a printer in our research school,it was always free, but we provided our own paper. Recently they replaced it with one that you have to pay 5p a sheet for  Today an email came round from one of the first year students saying the department wouldn't replace the toner cartridge in the printer, and asking who wanted to club in for a new one
Having been there for 8 years  this didn't surprise me, but I was NOT going to have the first years taken advantage of! So I emailed and told them so - and I also emailed the administrator saying that I assumed there was a muddle somewhere and that students weren't going to be expected to pay (and then I sent another one a few minutes later apologising and asking the question in a nicer voice :rotfl:)
Later received another one from someone else in the research school saying that it was actually the old printer they were trying to revive on t he quiet :rotfl: Hope I didn't stick my foot in it!(but they must have already asked the dept for a toner cartridge, so I *can't* have stuck my foot in it, but still!) Feeling a bit daft now :rotfl:

Oh Cheery you do make me laugh. I do things like that all of the time.
No I didnt ring trading standards sadly. I was just so young and I think he thought I was a fool. Now I am usually very quiet until I think that somebody is taking advantage of me or any vulnerable person and then I have to say something. KC I would love to be like a stand up comedian with my answers, sadly I mostly think about what I should have said several hours later. Then it is usually something funny but much too late. In that instance I dont know where the line came from but when I think about it now it does make me smile. I do think your leccy man (love saying that it makes me feel at home) was thinking that he had a soft woman in front of him. Good for you getting him back. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar.
