Sorry about that EH ... I only call it scrabbling because when I really notice what I'm doing when I'm doing that stuff, I feel a bit sick, I really hate that its necessary. Extra income is still necessary for me, believe me - my income is now half what it was in the first part of this decade just gone, and I still have a lot of costs even though the English mortgage has gone. But I made a long term decision: if I'm going to make a success of the second business, I don't have the time to do the other stuff too, the mystery shopping and whatnot - the trading is about four hours a day, I can't do that and my ordinary work and the mse work too. I've often earned £300-400 a month from it, its not inconsiderable, but I need more for my pension contributions, simple as that.

I hope you can find your way through this tough patch, however long the "patch" is.

Thanks KC - I think you've hit the nail on the head - yes, you can earn from the scrabbly stuff, but it's the time it takes to earn a relatively small amount that make it frustrating. I gave up on the surveys because I so often found I'd answered *lots* of questions only to suddenly be told I wasn't suitable - the cynic in me felt strongly that I was spending a lot of time answering often quite searching questions for these people and then they were screening me out once they had the information they required so as to avoid having to pay me anything! The frustration involved far outweighed the gains.

I'm loving the rainbow 50 day plan! Well done KC and Cheery :T

I like the idea of the journal too Cherisong, I'm trying to teach my kids each night to say one good thing that's happened that day, to get them into the habit of appreciating the good things in life (not just sweets )

Ps, if you like crafty things, are you going to watch Kirstie's Homemade Home tomorrow night? I can't wait! :D

EH, yep, we're singing from the same hymnsheet there.

macgirl - believe it or not, I *still* don't have my tv up and running - I think I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a freeview box down here, apparently thats essential round here. But I dvd'd Kirstie's HM programmes last year, they were *lovely*. I might dig the dvd out if they're on tomoz, thanks.

It's on C4 so I imagine it will! I don't watch much telly apart from Grand Designs and Mad Men, but I did love Kirstie's Homemade Home and Christmas last year, really got the creative juices flowing :D

I can absolutely understand that, Taxi, I'd be exactly the same - in fact, last year, with all those infections over the 4 - 5 months, I *was* the same.

I wonder if I should cancel my tv licence? No, I can't this year, cos I have my mum coming to stay over Christmas, we'd kill each other without the tv :D maybe after that.

I was up **really** early this morning, waiting for the laptop delivery :D fairly tired, I have to say :o but so pleased I don't feel bad for doing that first watered down coat of paint on the new plaster :j

I know today has Accounts work .... but off to get brekkie first and think exactly what.

Taxi, I am sure that tv is bringing much entertainment to you as there are some really good things on during the day. I used to think I could never manage without tv but not having one brings me so much more time and energy. KC when my friends and relatives come to stay I used to worry about not having tv but in fact they always say how relaxing it is when they come to stay with me. They raid my bookshelves, we play board games, OH plays the piano and we have singsongs, we talk like we have never talked in our life. And of course we take them on long country walks which means when they come back in they collapse in the chair with hot chocolate and fall asleep only to wake up and go to bed :) if we want to watch anything we can always link my work laptop and projector up and watch a dvd or iplayer so they dont feel too deprived.

Hope the laptop brings fun to your accounts.

I don't think I'll inflict that on my mum at Christmas, cherisong - this is the first and probably last time she'll have been with me (between Christmas and New Year) - she loves the idea of computers, but is actually frightened of breaking them :) but I can't see that she'll do it next year as well.... I'll probably let it run out or cash it in after Christmas, and like you use iplayer or whatnot...

And the new laptop has arrived! Its so beeyootiful :) I've got to work soon for a few hours, so I won't switch it on yet ... but it will be very exciting when I do! And I have to check what security its got, no idea. And then I must learn about porting bookmarks, then update my backup hard drive and get it on the new one. Then this one can be some games and a portable dvd player :D
