Thanks guys! I came back onsite to check my to-do list, and have ended up staying on the computer longer, oops. So I'm shutting down now. Back on at lunchtime tho!

Your light's still on KC!! :rotfl: Sounds like you've got a cheery day ahead though :D Have fun!
  • Morning! (it is still morning isn't it?)

KC I really sympathise with the problem of meeting new people, I think it gets harder as you get older as well because a lot of people already have established networks of friends to go and do things with. I tried going to dancing groups, evening classes etc and although they were fun and the people were nice I didn't really meet any 'friends' there, at the end of the evening everyone got their coats and hurried home. Perhaps because we were busy all the time there wasn't that much time to talk and get to know people. I have met good friends through a writing group (there was plenty of discussion there and we got to know each other reasonably well in the group), through other hobbies and activities and through voluntary work - I am part of a local wildlife group and also volunteer as an usher at the local theatre (also get to see plays for free - very MSE :T)
I don't know if you are into arty/ crafty stuff but if there was one of those groups who meet to work on their projects together that might be good - more sociable than a class perhaps as everyone will be chatting rather than sitting listening to teacher.

Hope you find some nice new people - and don't forget we are always here for a chat too!

Thanks both! Troglodyte, there are some really interesting points there - I know what you mean about people going off after a course, even tho they're nice, there's no way to get to know people - "doing" groups, and voluntary groups are much more likely to be ways to find people, that makes sense to me.

I'll go for the easiest options travel wise, at first - I'm rubbish at travelling in the evening, from sheer laziness really - but I *did* just phone the line dance lady - mixed news. No more beginners class, thats finished, and complete beginners can't come to the ordinary class because they don't know what to do when the calls are made. But she could tell from my vibe that I was a dancer :D - which I was :D:D:D - so she invited me to come along for tonight at no charge to check out an exhibition dance that they happen to have going tonight, as none of them know how to do it, it won't be a problem that *I* don't :D I love it when a plan comes together.

Right. Five minutes on here, then the other phone calls - I hope they go as well! Oh, and PS - the candles, candlesticks and matches are sorted in all four rooms.

Yay, great news on the line dancing tonight, sounds like it could be a fun group and hey, you might teach them a thing or two from your sci fi dances ;)

Good idea on the candles....I need to work out where my torches are, Father/Mother christmas kindly put one in our stockings each year but I'm sure they get whisked off with the odd socks as I can rarely find one when I need it! It's horrible weather here today so I reckon I'll have the candles in the fireplace burning tonight, it's the good thing about autumn/winter coming in, lovely candles!

I never think of torches for that sort of thing! I think because the batteries would be run down - its only a couple of times a year, after all. But I did see a torch recently, so now that I have rechargeable batteries, I must put it by them. Thanks!

I had a couple a year at the other place - only very short, an hour or so, but still, if you can't see, its a little disconcerting :p I was worried about the freezer (now that I have one, lol) but I didn't open it, and the current was back on by just after midnight, so thats fine.

Got one more phone call to do, in the evening, things are *kind* of tidy for tomorrow, so now its getting dressed to go outside and do my errands, then come back and calm down to leave the house at 6.30 to the hooley :j

Hope you get to the line dancing, and enjoy yourself. At least its a change, and its a complete new step (no pun intended) in a new direction for you. As you said, one of the reasons for moving to where you are was to join in socially.
