Morning Karma - glad to hear all is ticking along well for your move!:jbut I really can't justify £3 for a little tiny loaf.
A vote here for the economics of a breakmaker! Picked one up on sale from @rgos in February and it's definately paid for itself. Only OH eats bread regularly as I've developed a strange reaction to yeast - we would throw out or feed the ducks 1/2 of every loaf we bought. Now two small loaves come out of the breadmaker a week & except for the top and bottom crust end which makes fabby breadcrumbs, the entire loaf gets eaten! Very MSE & environmentally sound to not waste so that's me happy - lol!:rotfl::rotfl:Also makes nice gifts beleive it or not - FIL is never happier than with a fresh slice of whole wheat with butter on top!
XO

Have to agree with the breadmaker suggestion mine is on at least every other day and makes super bread, it'll more than pay for itself KC and would be a great investment, the new ones have glutton free recipes in as standard too.

Hi there - thanks both for the feedback about the breadmakers - can I check with both of you please - do the gluten free bread recipes for a breadmaker make do without yeast? RT, it sounds like you make it that way? My sister will let me use hers when I visit (I only want to do that to see if its worth buying one, i.e. if I don't have a yeast problem too
) but I'd really like to get it going otherwise.
Started on the phone calls - Virgin take *ages* to connect up again, I'm going to be offline for over a week, I reckonMy fuel supplier has a 45 minute wait to speak to someone - I've done the informing online, but at the end of the process it says:
"The property you are moving into is not currently supplied by XX. To start, you must complete a new supply application. We'll call you on the day after you move into your new property to complete this application."
I want to check that I'll actually have gas and electricity when I move in!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi Karma... gluten free flour does work but needs a bit of experimentation to get the texture right - I've got a friend who uses it all the time and she's more or less got it sussed now but she did make some strange sticky heavy loaves to start off with. Have you tried things like spelt or rye flour?Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

ps re gas and electricity, I don't think they actually switch it off, even if there is a delay in sorting out suppliers.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0

Thanks for both feedbacks, Squizz. I've never tried making bread at all. Like RT and turfy, my sister swears by her breadmaker too
I don't mind heavy - (#he aint heavy, he's my brother) sorry, I couldn't resist :rotfl: I just don't want food intolerances to be part of the process - I'm not sure my body likes yeast:o:o

What about a soda bread type of thing, they don't use yeast do they? (you can tell I'm not the official bread maker person in our house).
Just came across this site - http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/ - seems really good.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Morning (or afternoon!)
I was about to post a link to a gorgeous food-related blog with fab recipes and pictures for you to look at... for some reason I had it in my head it was all (or most at least!) gluten free... But having spent, er, the last 20 minutes of work time looking at itI can't find anywhere that says it is!
I'm going to post it anyway though cos it's so gorgeous, and there's plenty of stuff on there that isn't bread...
Tasty food gorgeous blog
If I come across the one I was thinking of I'll post that one too! :rotfl:0 -
Two very interesting blogs, thank you both! Daffs, orangette's link isn't working, but I googled orangette and blogspot, and got it. I'm definitely going to earmark one day a month, maybe one a fortnight, for actual cooking - if I want food as more than fuel, before I'm a millionaire, then I just have to start to cook again.
These phone calls have been unutterably tedious, they really have. Bad, but not nearly as bad as Nationwide, so thats something.
And I don't have to do any trips to tip or charity shop either - my business partner is driving me to a tip tomorrow, and that one has a charity shop right there to cream everything off for resale, so I'll be able to take the books and gubbins too. And even if I can't put them there, his wife will drop them off at a charity shop for me so result :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
good luck with the phonecalls ..they seem to take forever these big firms to deal with anything.0
