Just completed a really interesting exercise - when I do a budget normally, I just write things down in the order I remember them, or in the order the direct debits come out, just on a scrap of paper. For the first time, today, I've got out the book I use to write down all the matched bets, and I've written all the expenses down as
(a) annual expenses - for work
(b) annual expenses - personal
(c) monthly expenses.
I'm astonished at how much more in control I feel about itit never occurred to me to do what other people do, "I have a budget of this amount for presents etc and I've spent this much". Good grief. I really need a Charlie Brown smiley there..........

I think its because of the whole self employment thing, that we don't do it that way. But that budget is absolute minimums, even house maintenance isn't allowed for (and never has been in my head, hence my current problems). I'll start living by the budgets properly in May; for the moment, any paperwork I do will be on the accounts - because I've done this budget, I'd like to check what I actually earnerd last year, in the next day or so. Depends on the workload.
I'm finishing off the paper-clearing I did yesterday, by doing my desk - amazing whats been lodged there! The guys who collect the recycling are *not* going to be happy with me, there's a lot of paper going out this month2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

Sounds good and great that it's made you feel more in control.
Did you find anything interesting in your desk? When we cleared out our old office we found some chickpeas, a collection of china pigs and some VAT guidelines from 1992 amongst other things... :rotfl:Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
Nothing so wonderful! I found a lurvely pic of Michael Shanks tho, taken by a friend with a *very* good camera. And an article I'd cut out about Martin, back in October 2005 before I ever needed the site. I use my desk every day, so I plumb the depths every year or so, don't know how I missed these.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

It's amazing..how much paperwork (not needed) that we accumulate...I shredded absolutely loads the other day and can find plenty more to shred as well.0

Yep, I chucked the article - he may be The Blessed Martin to me, but I just don't need to give that house room! Michael, otoh, has been safely tucked away in an A4 folder of such yummy pics (including ones taken of us both together!!).
At the moment, I'm going through the papers I've accumulated since only last year, related to a green website - turns out that most of them aren't related at allso they can go
Going to stop in a minute (well, I've already stopped, to type this!) to watch Have I Got NewsFor You.
