Great idea about your sister having a look as she may spot something that you haven't.It definitely sounds like you're edging towards the bungalow.

If the bigger house "feels" right when you go inside, then go with it. But I just remember how ill you have been these last months, and I worry for you that the bigger house will not allow you to enjoy your space because there will always be something that needs doing. I'm thinking about that too....

Also, if you have space you don't need, you will start allowing the clutter back in........!!

Oh god yes, thats why the clutter got so bad in the first place - there were plenty of hidey holes that didn't interfere with everyday life, for years and years :eek::eek:

And remember - what you don't spend on renovations would be money in the bank......security and money to "play" with.

If you spend that 30k on renovations, which wouldn't last long if you have roofing/kitchen/bathrooms etc to do, then you are left with nothing in the bank. That means you still HAVE to work. What happens then if you decide that, actually, you want to reduce your hours, pick and choose your clients more, or want to pack up and spend 6 months on a kibbutz?

In truth, its about time I added something to the pathetic little pension pot I have - at the moment, my private pension is worth about £600 a year. Its not nothing, but its not much. It could really do with £30k!

I think Hypno has raised some really good points there as well. You want to be left with the best possible option for YOU and how you want your life to be.

Yep, I was so pleased she wanted to come along. And the bungalow definitely seems to be winning at the moment. Even that house I saw last week, the one near the council houses, would be better than the big one near the railway line, to be honest. Thats what I'm thinking now - all that one would need is a coat of paint in the kitchen and a new gas fire (it has a woodburner - very nice and all that, but ... arthritic fingers... no!).

And yes, options, giving myself options - taking money out of the house, not to spend on consumerist carp, but to cut down the mortgage, ease my life a bit, and maybe boost the pension a tad.

You've just answered your own question re the big house.Sounds like that can be ruled out.Have you been in any of these houses yet?

Been inside the one by the council houses. Did a driveby on Monday of the big one in the really nice area - going to the bungalow tomorrow! I'm trying, honest! I've never moved houses between towns before :o I'd have said its quite awkward without a car, but to be honest the car journey was only a fraction shorter than the bus

My six pennyworth is I agree with Hypno a house without hassle is what you need so that you can concentrate on living - in need of modernisation is not what you need you are leaving a house that needs work doing why would you want to take a new one on that needs work too - you want to move and start your life anew not dealing with hassles and the little one looks sweet and is in a good location - but at the end of the day it needs to have the right feeling and you will only know that when you walk in I have always known the house for me as soon as I have walked in. Good luck with your viewing.

Good luck with the househunting - and I've got to agree that less hassle seems better. Think of all the times on this diary you've been stressed because of something needing done to the house. But yes it does also need to feel right. So good luck!
