  • *sighs* our new house is indeed gorgeous - but designed inside by an idiot.

(no offence to landlord -- who also blocked up all the chimneys and put walls over the top of them - extended the house wonderfully but the rooms are all crazy its such a waste of space) but we still love it. Then again we're a bit wierd as well - so we all suit the house.

KC are you planning an 'overnight' up there to check out all these things - sorry if sounds like a daft question.

Well the bungalow has lots of advantages - why is the energy rating not really high then - confused? Garden would also be really easy to manage in wee house :)Not sure about the energy rating - when the guy did it here, he took account of what light bulbs I had in! And for such a little place to have two toilets, two showers and a bath - probably doesn't help!

I can't say much about arthritus - sorry - but hugs I know it can be really crippling. xx

    Thanks!

Re tatties (shudders at the thought of a lack of potato in anyone's diet) do you eat much gnocchi? Those pesky little italian potato dumplings - ready in 3 mins - full of potatoey goodness and quick. Def no peeler required.

Tbh, Fay, I've always assumed they're really expensive... is that not true?

I only mention them as I bought a pile for my stores when away - they never last long as I love them - but kids aren't keen so I normally gorge myself on them when they are away.

Can you get an idea of running costs from neighbours/estate agents for both houses? Good idea, if the one selling the big house ever comes back to me

My friend had solar panels - she paid about £60 a year for her hot water.........and that was on an island in west of scotland not famous for being very warm........:) cor. That sounds reeelllly good.

I keep looking at the floorplan of the big house. It has *three* toilets; it just seems really big for one person.

Hi KC - hope you don't mind me putting my 2-pennorth'worth in! I reckon the bungalow is cheap because the main part of the garden is the space you see, there's not much behind it, so you're pretty much on view. Good location in terms of being able to get to the station though!

    Have fun viewing :)

KC gnocchi - £1.09- £1.50 for a box - portion wise - 2/3 portions in a box - or 2 if you're a guts like me. Usually on the shelf with the pasta - normally only one type there shrink wrapped keeps for ages - or in fresh bit of fridges by pasta etc (that's more expensive but freezes well).

I like the logic of the small house - but I get claustraphobic about people/space/etc - so my judgement is a bit squiff

(although I'm at the running away from teenagers stage of my life/on an island where you spend over 1/2 the year inside)

I love staying with a pal I know without kids at home now - her house is so cosy/tidy/perfectly formed.

Re: running costs......If you can't get an answer from the vendor can you ask any of the neighbours? They'll probably be more up front?

I'm having gnocchi for tea today! :j I'm trying Weezl's recipe from her blog - not sure about using instant mash for it but I'll give it a try! ;) I think the ready made ones have wheat flour in though. Here is a BBC food recipe too - it uses proper potatoes and less flour so may be more amenable to making it gluten free for you.

Only ever had gnocchi once, in an Italian restaurant and thought it was very bland and not very nice....did I just have a one off bad experience? Wanted to try it since but don't want to waste my money.

  • Thanks Taka - will check it out and might give it a go - looks ace - sorry didn't realise it had flour in it - (whoops)

Re the instant mash - given the lack of hassle its prob worth a bash once - but I know what you mean? Although the amount of tatties we eat - there's always some mash kicking about somewhere.

They don't really have a strong taste at all so I have them with a strong sauce - eg a spicy tomato sauce with peppers in.

Not sure how much flour the ready made ones have - they may be much less? I'm not sure.

Instant mash just gives me flashbacks to uni as one of my flatmates used to eat it (dry!) after a night out! Strange lad! :rotfl: I just wanted to see what it was like doing them Weezl stylie as it'd be good emergency store cupboard thing eg when I go to make them from real potatoes and realise (a) I forgot to buy more (b) the ones I have are unexpectedly and unsalvagably (sp?) sprouty! :o (Note to self - do not buy 5kg bags of spuds for 1 person!) (c) more month than money!

Thats great, thank you! I certainly think thats one reason, absolutely. While part of me would like *lots* of space, the other part of me (the part of me with arthritis in my fingers) knows that the upkeep of a garden will get progressively more difficult, and I was never that great with it anyway :o
