Its tough for you to be without DF (dear family) I know - hard to get the energy when you're missing them.........
But here are the links:
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-29238266.html This is the bungalow.
And http://www.psphomes.co.uk/07,0,0,0,930459,37812,00.htm the area is much better than it looks, everything feels established and solid there, and thats a lot more building for not much more money....2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hope you don't mind me crashing into your diary KC? Just had a look at the two properties, I think they are both lovely. The key thing is, when you walk up the road towards the house and you walk up the path and over the threashold, how does it make you feel. You should always have an instinct about the place you'll be most happiest in
Good luck xDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Well had a neb -
I have to say - the new build with all its mod cons' does seem to be pretty amazing - but the older house has more space/character?
I know the older house is bigger etc - but the insulation/renewable energy/decor/blinds etc of the new house would make me think as the cost of living might be smaller?
Mind you - its always good to have space - especailly as you do alot from home.
I guess the newer one would have lower heating/running costs overall - but depends how old the system is at the other house/how much insulation it needs.
But in the new house, the kitchen is in the sitting room/diner - so its quite a bit smaller - how do you feel about living space/kitchen etc all in one room?
I told you I'd be hopeless I like them both - The older house has more garden/space etc as well - you do like being outside (but the newer house would be able to be sorted the way you want it.)

Jo, thats great, thank you :j I'm glad you think they've both got something - and its definitely about the feelings too, as you say. For instance, that smaller one - I *think* it may be in a little row thats mostly taken by retired people. While I'm edging that way myself, I'm not *that* old. So thats something to watch for, definitely.
The other one - its very, very near the main railway line, i.e. the one between London and the south coast, so a hugely busy line. If its at a curve in the road so that there's even one house between it and the line, then thats possible. If it backs onto it, I don't think I could live there.
Thanks again!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Well had a neb - Excellent!
I have to say - the new build with all its mod cons' does seem to be pretty amazing - but the older house has more space/character? Thats what it boils down to.
I know the older house is bigger etc - but the insulation/renewable energy/decor/blinds etc of the new house would make me think as the cost of living might be smaller? Its odd - the energy rating of the new place isn't that high. The bigger house would undoubtedly be more expensive to run, tho.
Mind you - its always good to have space - especailly as you do alot from home. So true - and I've realised, since I made the booking, the little house doesn't even have a separate kitchen. And since its in a row of new builds, it may not even get planning permission (some time in the future) to put another storey on).
I guess the newer one would have lower heating/running costs overall - but depends how old the system is at the other house/how much insulation it needs. And of course it would be me installing that, so I'd have some choices there.
But in the new house, the kitchen is in the sitting room/diner - so its quite a bit smaller - how do you feel about living space/kitchen etc all in one room? Thats okay, as long as the cooker has an extractor. I'd need to be super tidy!
I told you I'd be hopeless I like them both - The older house has more garden/space etc as well - you do like being outside (but the newer house would be able to be sorted the way you want it.) Yep ..... they'd both be sorted the way I want, actually, since the older one obviously needs some fairly drastic redoing.
See I told you - useless
Not at all! Thanks for checking them out!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
There is a lot to be said about living in an area with mainly older people...peace and quiet for one!! I'm only 37 but would rather live with older people around me than young families, those young kids turn into teenagers, then they have parties  :rotfl:
When you visit, if you are driving, park a road or two away so you can walk to each place and see how they make you feel.DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
Glad to see you had some people to help you out. It's so hard to make deciscions.I absolutely agree that the feel of the place has a lot to do with it.You'll know the right one when you feel right.Hope you're having a good day x0

Hmm, thats true. The older house is the one a kind mse-er drove me by yesterday, and we loved the feel of the road - tho it is by the railway, *right* by the railway, and that might be a dealbreaker. The little house, I know the road its *off* quite well, and its a pleasant minor main road in HH, some pretty nice properties on it. For a house so close to the station, the little one is an absolute steal, but it *is* little. I'm really undecided! This is about lifestyle as much as anything: who am I? How confusing :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Ah you see I can't do supertidy.
In fact I can't do tidy at all.
Like Jo said see how you feel when you go
I went to visit a house which was perfect - small enough, good insultation - good location for both schools, buses, kids pals etc
But it just didn't feel right - but when I went to the other house (the one we've got now for moving into) as illogical as the house is - it was just right - I like the feel of it - I like how I feel in it and how it makes me feel.
Grants etc for insulation etc - lots of options there and alot of local councils putting it in for you - GCH is good isnt it?
I'd do what Jo says and take a walk around etc - imagine living there and see how you get to stuff................Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
